Cheney Instructs the Pentagon to Prepare a Nuclear Attack Against Iran?!?
According to the TPM Cafe:

http://www.tpmcafe.com/story/2005/7/22/11532/9662

-------------------------------------------------------------------
Justin Logan excerpts an article that's apparently in the print issue of The American Conservative:

The Pentagon, acting under instructions from Vice President Dick Cheney's office, has tasked the United States Strategic Command (STRATCOM) with drawing up a contingency plan to be employed in response to another 9/11-type terrorist attack on the United States. The plan includes a large-scale air assault on Iran employing both conventional and tactical nuclear weapons. Within Iran there are more than 450 major strategic targets, including numerous suspected nuclear-weapons-program development sites. Many of the targets are hardened or are deep underground and could not be taken out by conventional weapons, hence the nuclear option. As in the case of Iraq, the response is not conditional on Iran actually being involved in the act of terrorism directed against the United States. Several senior Air Force officers involved in the planning are reportedly appalled at the implications of what they are doing--that Iran is being set up for an unprovoked nuclear attack--but no one is prepared to damage his career by posing any objections.

Now, unfortunately, I have no idea whether or not that's true or even what context the assertion appears in. I should probably try and get a comp subscription, this kind of seems like a big deal.

-------------------------------------------------------------------

This is just too scary. And yet, is it really that hard to believe?

1. What about Pakistan?
They already have nukes and are about 1 or 2 steps away from radicals taking over the gov't

If we get nuked will they automatically name Iran?

8. Actually that may very well be in those plans.....
....the U.S. would have to fly over Iran to get to Pakistan. This is very scary stuff. I think Dick Cheney is the driving force behind all this and is becoming mentally unstable as a result. Bush is far too medicated to do anything but what he is told to do. He would not hesitate for an instant if given the nod from Dick Cheney.

3. No, not hard to believe at all. This administration is chock full o' nuts
who's love to launch a nuclear attack.

Beside their total lack of regard for human life, I'm sure that this sense of 'power' has a lot to say about their feelings of their own manhood. Tough guys who never had the guts to serve when it was their time.

6. As the Plame story picks up more steam & more people look involved
nothing would surprise me now. A wounded and threatened animal is very dangerous. Cheney is such an animal and he will not go down without pulling every trick in the book.

And war is so profitable for his friends, he will keep getting us into them, keep holding the US military personel as hostages until he is stopped by the Congress/Senate or some military brass WITH some brass.

Somebody has to say NO to the chicken hawk and they had better start doing it soon. He has no problem with spending anybody's lives to advance his agenda. He lied us into Irag and thousands are dead. He will do it again any time he needs to.

I'm just asking... Wouldn't he want to keep it "conventional" as long as possible? From a profits point of view, I mean.

15. If troops are required, and that would do it, they have to be equiped, fed
housed and provided with fuel. Any attack on Iran would make enemies for Americans and that would require troop involvement. Troop involment makes $$ for Cheney's pals AND keeps the troops basically hostage.

32. I think the nuclear arms are "needed"
to win a quick, decisive victory (in Cheney's imagination, anyway). Iran is much bigger and much stronger militarily than Iraq. And how quick and decisive a vicory that was, ahem. It's not just about profits for Halliburton, but also to regain some of the respect for America's might in the minds the peoples of the world, which has eroded dramatically since the Iraq debacle. These people are obsessed with these things. Strength and power and respect. Using nukes would be a demonstration of the length of America's collective penis.

It is becoming increasingly clear that Iran has emerged as the winner of the war on Iraq. The new Iraqi govt. is basically an Iranian puppet government. This was obvously not exactly what the neocons intended, so it is very believable that they are planning to do something about it. Being remembered as failures in the history books of the future is not an option for these people. Remember Richard Perle's words: "the children of the future will sing songs to our praise..."

:nuke:

The most frightening part: they need a terrorist attack to do this, and Osama is still out there...

then the gov't would pretend that we are the "nice guys" and go in and rebuild on our dime and with their profits.

Installing the gov't of their choice, of course.

Edited on Fri Jul-22-05 12:23 PM by Ezlivin
When President Cheney takes control, he'll establish martial law and finish the consolidation of power. The nukes will fly and we'll all get to see how Mad Max lived.

Naturally, once Bush is martyred, the voice of the Repubs will become infinitely strident and they will call for world-wide destruction.

Or didn't you get the memo?

23. If you failed your oath on 9/11 and let 3000 Americans die,
what wouldn't you be capable of? Cheney is in this sooo deep, it is scary. His company was trading with Iraq around the embargo. His company was doing business with Iran. His company was selliing dual-use WMD components to Pakistan. Her's a war criminal / monger / profiteer of the highest magnitude.

If this is being seriously contemplated, then I have no doubts another "event" is being planned. They'll need to do something big to justify martial law. Watch out, Congress.

Edited on Fri Jul-22-05 10:33 PM by Gay Green
Some damn fool "remote viewer" predicted this for the year 2002 on the Art Bell program and only now when ppl are talking of the Bush Maladministration needing something spectacular to impose martial law and enable the PNAC program to go forward, has it escaped the memory hole back into my brain!!!

If that dam were for some reason to let go, the unleashed reservoir of water would madly rush downstream and take every dam and bridge between it and the Gulf. In the process, Omaha, Kansas City, Saint Louis, Memphis, Baton Rouge and New Orleans would all be devastated and the country would be split in two.

:scared:

34. Here is the most important part of the story
WITHOUT KNOWING WHO WOULD FACILITATE THE ATTACK ON THE US - CHENEY HAS ALREADY DECIDED ON RETALIATORY ATTACKS ON IRAN.

My friends down in the US - please keep you eyes open and stay safe. My worries are that if the Plame investigation gets too hot - another attack will occur on the US - and Bushco will launch attacks on Iran.

They are rushing the agenda - Iraq, Iran and Syria. The stakes are getting higher by the minute.

Just my opinion.

That was the plan. How will they extract oil from irradiated fields? Though I reckon they could sign up the suckers and desperately unemployed - as long as they waive future medical liability.

And nukes alone won't do it. They'd still need boots on the ground. Iran is big and mountainous. Welcome to Stalingrad.
