A good time to throw yourself on the grenade, Karl...
You would think the turd blossom would have the decency to throw himself on the grenade to save his president. He's in such deep shit now that no matter what happens he will be a liability from this point forward.

There are only 4 possible explanations for Karl not doing the right thing

1) Karl is innocent and waiting to be exonerated. Mehlmans wish
will be granted. The entire country will apologize to Karl.

2) Karl isn't worried at all. Karl has threatened Fitz, and
Fitz is scared. Fitz knows that people rove has no use
for have a mysterious way of disappearing.

3) Just like his boss, rove is disconnected from the world. Rove
believes he'll get a free pass on Traitorgate. He's waiting
for everyone to move on and forget it, like they always do.

Or the most likely explanation;

Rove is a miserable, heartless low-life who would sell out anyone to beat the rap. He doesn't care about his friend, the President. He doesn't care about our Country. He doesn't care about doing the right thing. All he cares about is himself.

If this guy had even the smallest amount of decency, he would resign.

4. Option 5: It's Too Late To Turn Back
Resigning would be an admission of guilt/failure and he sees his only option to be to keep on keeping on, lying and obstructing. It's all he knows.

Yes, Rove is disconnected from reality, just like his boss (#4). And yes, Rove is a miserable, heartless low-life who cares only about his own welfare (#5). Rove doesn't do the right thing because he's drank the kool-aid for too long. He truly believes that everything he does is good and for the betterment of the country.

But, Rove is so deep in keeping the WH in stonewall and cover-up mode that he, ***, Crashcart, and the whole bunch are doing nothing else but working the Plame affair. In spite of the fact that this is hurting the country, he sees the contrary--that by preserving himself and Libby he is protecting the President and helping the country by doing that.

Ergo, he will not do it.

8. decency
It would seem that your last sentence contains the crux of the matter.If- big if- he had the slightest decency. However I tend to think that should he resign it would imply guilt in a shameful episode and thereby reflect negatively on the chimperor. Likewise were he to be fired by the primate it would imply guilt, and worse, perhaps some complicity on the primate's part. We all know they're hoping to outlast this as they've done so many things in the past, but I don't think it's going to happen this trip. Fitzgerald is a bulldog who's taken on the gambino crime family I don't think the rethuglican doughboy would scare him very much. So basically it's a combination of your #3 and your most likely scenario, but I'm just optimistic enough to think the big skate won't happen.

9. Better idea

If they go by alphabetical order, Bolton goes first and Rove goes last. At least so far. Who knows who else is involved.

11. #1 is out but elements of the other 3 and others are probably the truth
#2 Rove has probably threatened Mr. F, but that Mr. F is listening is not clear.

#3 Rove is clearly disconnected from the world. The RW generally is. THey live in a world where RW radio talkpoints reign, truth be damned. He probably believes he will get away with this. He clearly does everything he can to get America to move on, but it does not seem to be working.

#4 All of that is valid.

God only knows what about options #5 through infinity.
