Am I the only one tired of the talk about "sleeper cells"? |
|
I mean, it's not hard to believe that people could come into a country to commit acts of terrorism, or that they would come in a group instead of just singly. It's not hard to believe either that there could be people living normal lives somewhere biding their time until an opportunity to commit an act of terrorism arises.
But "sleeper cell" evokes images way beyond that, of the brainwashed remote-controlled zombies of "Manchurian Candidate" or "Telefon". It's a purely paranoia-inducing term.
And what's all this marveling about how "cells" prevent one terrorist from ratting out the whole organization? I mean, before there were cells, did every terrorist carry around a copy of "Who's Who in Terrorism"?

2. They have meetings every Tues night in the mosque basement |
|
And they wear funny hats and call each other "evil brother". They take attendance and pledge a toast to OBL. They plot to take over the world, then they have a meatloaf dinner and tell off-color jokes. I hear there are door prizes too.
