<snip>U.S. Supreme Court nominee John Roberts said on Friday he "hates bullies" who prey on the powerless, which pleased a key Democratic senator as the conservative candidate stepped up a Capitol charm offensive.

"I liked that answer," Assistant Senate Democratic leader Richard Durbin of Illinois said after a private meeting with President Bush's nominee."
<snip>

The thread title is a joke, in case anyone was wondering

7. I'm still somewhat undecided about Roberts
It's a matter of not knowing. Nothing of significance has come out yet. His remarks on abortion could easily be a diversion, too -- expected, but still calculated to make his opposition react.

I know he's a conservative, but I'm uncertain of just how bad he is or could be. I also know that appointment to the SC tends to humanize most conservatives, recent examples (Scalia, Thomas, Kennedy) aside.

The fix is in -- the media think he's Mr. Wonderful -- but he's still too much of an unknown to me. I'll have to keep reading. I'm not likely to "approve" of him, but there's a difference between him being a Scalia and being a Souter.

Of course, if you want to heap abuse on him, be my guest. :)

9. Let us know what you think when your research is completed!
Study closely his record as an attorney in private practice. The main thing in his Judicial career is lack of a paper trail. I believe you will find a few rather dubious opinions in his brief tenure in the judiciary.

13. Like I said, I'm still reading ...
... and as I also said, I don't think he's going to be all that great a pick. And his lack of a record is quite prominent -- I'm not sure why so many people think he's a great jurist. Nobody seems to know anything except to quote the same four or five legal papers and claim how he's such a wonderful lawyer.

Plus, in terms of invective, I don't like to just "name 'em, blame 'em, and shame 'em", I like to stretch them out between four horses, cut their entrails out, quarter them, grind their body into a pulp and stick their head on a pike for the world to see. I've been polishing up the cutlery for Rick Santorum's run next year.

And if Roberts turns out to "convert" like Earl Warren did, so much the better.

10. "hates bullies who prey on the powerless"
"pro-life" people say that sometimes about fetuses.

I'm just sayin...

Don't be surprised if he throws in a Dred Scott reference as well.

12. You liked that answer, Senator Durbin?
Well, ask another question and pull the f*cking string in Roberts' back and wait for the next answer that makes you happy. :banghead:
