The Irony Is Blowing My Mind. The Bush Legacy
Edited on Sat Sep-27-03 01:03 PM by Solomon
It is very clear that, however, the way you want to look at it, an agressive attempt is underway to transfer the biggest power, wealth, and control into the hands of fewer people.

The evolution represented by the principle of the American system, i.e., "of the people, by the people, and for the people" - is being betrayed.

Bush has set the standard sooooo low for president, that he will wind up democratizing the system instead.

People who would never have been listened to before Bush became president, are now being heard because now people realize, they don't have to be so snooty, when they choose to consider someone for president.

Every single democratic candidate, has stature simply because, only a complete idiot, would be worse than George Bush.

Think about it. Even people who are said to have absolutely no chance whatsoever, are being heard. After all, what could Mosely-Braun presidency do that people would be afraid of? What would Sharpton do which would scare the hell out of everybody?

Personally, I think someone like Braun or Sharpton, would have a successful approach to problems of the middle east, and in restoring our status as a "family member" of the world.

For my money, I would trust them more. Because I am satisfied, that they are intelligent enough to know what they don't know, as so would actually listen to, respond to, the sound advise given to them by experts.

The same goes for every single candidate we have. (except for one )

The irony of electronic voting is that, if it could be perfected, it would vastly increase the participation of the public in democracy, (imagine just being able to vote without leaving your house) - make better democracy more possible. But on the other hand, if commandeered by nefarious forces, it would absolutely kill democracy. We are at a crossroads. (God bless Bev Harris) Which way will it go? Dictatorship or democracy?

Because of Bush I believe the public will start considering a better class of candidates by simply listening to people they are used to shutting out.

Potential for greater democracy - not less.

1. Good point.
Ironically, it's a new version of Nader's point from 2000.

Nader's stance, insanely, was that we needed to MAKE THIS HAPPEN in order to force the epiphany you're talking about. You're a little saner :)

2. never thought of it this way before!
Very insightful. The battle will not be easy but if we are dedicated, we can do it!

The irony, the irony, the irony....

3. Yes, but
the repugs I've talked to seem to actually think that Chimpy is very smart and doing the right thing. The independents I've talked to have said they like him because he is down to earth like them. He looks presidential to them because he is the president. Mosley-Braun and Sharpton don't look presidential because they're not the president. A tall, white man with a blue suit and red tie has the best shot. Especially if he talks and thinks like the average Joe or Jill.

4. That was then, but this is now.
I don't give a rats ass about delusional people who think Bush is credible. They may be the world's smallest minority.

5. Yeah, if I hear someone else talking about...
...how S CA R E D they are of a Clark presidency, or a Dean presidency, or a Mosely-Braun presidency, or a Sharpton presidency, or a Kucinich presidency, I just have to throw my hands up in the air and laugh. What planet have they been living on for the last 3 years? Anyone who thinks it's business as usual these days is very sadly mistaken....

For years we have been commiserating about how Republican lockstep has successfully enabled the hijacking of our government by radical extremists -- and we're STILL infighting?
Real. Smart.

If they (I do not include myself among them) keep this shit up, then they are GUARANTEEING that "Meet the new boss, same as the old boss" comes true -- because the new boss will be an re-elected George W.

I am delighted by the wide range of ideas represented by the candidates. I may disagree with them on points, but I support them all.
