Another example of Ridiculous TSA rules!
http://tsa-7.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/tsa.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=5

Q: I am diabetic, can I travel with both insulin and syringes?

A: If you are a diabetic and need to carry insulin and syringes, the following guidelines should be adhered to in order to avoid problems at the security checkpoint:

* Notify the screener that you have diabetes and are carrying your supplies with you.
* Notify screeners if you are wearing an insulin pump and explain that you cannot go through the METAL DETECTOR or be handwanded.
* Advise the screener that the insulin pump cannot be removed because it is surgically implanted.
* You will need to carry a vial of insulin with a professional, pharmaceutical pre-printed label that clearly identifies the medication.
* Note: Due to the possibility of forgery prescriptions and letters of medical necessity will not be accepted.

----------------

See anything wrong with the highlighted part? Maybe the well known fact that you can buy insulin from any pharmacy without a prescription for $20.

So, that $20 bottle of insulin means that you can carry needles? I'm not even going to go into filling an insulin bottle with some kind of poison ;-)

1. weird, I travel with insulin and accessories all the time
All they ever do is look at it and ignore it after seeing the labels, if and when they bother looking. I had no idea these "rules" existed.

2. I see your point, but what's the answer?
My coousin had diabetes, and HAD to carry all those things, and more. He had to get a pancrease transplant 5 years ago, which so far has been successful, and he no longer needs the insulin. But people now, in the situation that he was in MUST carry their treatment with them, especially on longer flights.

How would you suggest they insure the validity of the meds without taking TOO much of a risk that the liquid in the bottle wasn't what the label says?

4. I'm not saying anything about restricting it... it's just a bit funny that
their way to solve the problem is to make sure it's a legitimate bottle... not, say, a prescription or doctor's note or something.

3. Maybe they've been watching too much Law and Order
where you have to smuggle in insulin if you don't have diabetes.

Hell, last year our state even dropped the requirement of having to sign for syringes.
