Wayward Moose Breaks Into 'Secure' Colorado Military Base
Wayward Moose Corralled at Colorado Military Base
GIs have captured an intruder in a secure area of a Colorado military base. But it's no terrorist -- just a loose moose.

Soldiers and state wildlife officers managed to corral the 500-pound female moose, which had wandered into the part of Fort Carson reserved for equipment returning from Iraq.

Steve Cooley, a wildlife manager for the state, says the location was less than ideal for a moose. The animal was tranquilized and literally put on ice.

GIs loaded the moose into a trailer packed with 600 pounds of ice to keep it cool during the record heat wave. Officials say their military moose will be released into the wild in Western Colorado.

5. follow-up
I would like to find out if any independent media or environmentalist in the Ft. Carson area can document the subsequent release or the Moose.

I do not trust the military and my first thought, upon reading the story, is that the moose will not be released into the wild, but will be detained indefinitely or killed and buried.

8. You're absolved, Moosepoop - and Welcome to DU!
I find this surprising - I was stationed at Ft. Carson many moons ago, and never remember any stories involving moose in the area.
If I recall correctly, the mountains run N/S along the West side of the base, and the dry plains are on the East.

Could he (or her) - the moose - have wandered South through the mountains? I guess I never knew they hung around there - just mostly steer and jack rabbits.
