Poll question: POLL: Should Democrats worry about being called OBSTRUCTIONISTS?
On Roberts nomination or anything else?

The White House and their echo chamber use this criticism all the time, and Democrats seem to take it at least as seriously as the right does.

My question is, if the president and especially his policies are so unpopular, what is the downside of blocking them, or even just voting against them since at least in the House, Dems can't really "obstruct" anything?

1. We are winning on Social Security and Bolton
because we did not roll over. We won on Schiavo because we did stand out of their way while they made fools of themselves, and that didn't really hurt anything.

so it all depends on the situation really.

11. Schiavo was a good example of when to let them implode in peace

Let's just hope that the intensity keeps building in the backbone.

3. I wonder what the opposition is for if it doesn't oppose
Maybe the Bush cabal have threatened the Democrats and their families so they don't dare oppose? Unless they are just plain lazy?

4. Fight but do it intelligently.
Vocal opposition to the Supreme Court candidate BEFORE he/she was named was not very bright. Some Democrats were already talking about opposing the candidate even before we knew who it was. That more then anything can make Democrats look like obstructionist. They should have waited.

12. they had correctly predicted the kind of candidate Bush would choose
and all those statements about hoping for a mainstream candidate were made.

14. Everyone knew he would pick a conservative just like a Democratic
President would pick a Liberal. That was a given. Complaining before the pick just does not look good. They should have waited.

6. I think it's an honor to be called an obstructionist if what I'm trying to
prevent are wars being started based on lies, a complete plunder and pillage of the US Treasury, the SS fund being looted by the administration to pay for more of their crimes, the theft of elections, the loss of what few freedoms we have left.

Hell yes, call me an obstructionist. That just may be the new word for 'patriot'.

7. We will be called that no matter what.

Remember, with the Rethugs, it doesn't have to be true.

What we need is a good counterattack.

8. We have one more shot
so we'd better take it when the time is right, when we are most strong. There is blood in the water now...

Obstruction is a good cover.

9. Whatever for? Consider it high praise if you are able to obstruct this
agenda in any way. It's NOBLE to obstruct crime.

10. Here's to hoping the next time we hear the word Obstruction...
The words "of Justice" follow it, and the names Rove, Libby and Novak are the ones associated with it.

At least those 3, any others would be welcome additions. :D
