I met some wonderful DUers today!!!
:bounce:

I had already met PassingFair (of course), SharonRB, and MichOtter. I was delighted to meet lwfern, livvy, and fujiyama (I'm so glad I logged on one last time today and caught your post!). And of course, symbolman! :yourock: coming all that way...

There were also many interesting and I have to say enlightened people from around our state.

It was a day of making friends, of standing ovations (how can anyone not see the intelligence and dignity of our statesman Rep. Conyers?), of tears (Lila Lipscomb is an inspiration to moms everywhere) and a sense of renewal for me at least. I'm rededicated to fighting. I won't give up...I just won't.

The first speaker was local syndicated broadcaster and author, Tony Trupiano. I believe his speech was stirring and and excellent way to begin the discussion.

Lila Lipscomb had me in tears. After the meeting I was delighted to be able to thank her and tell her it was because of her that I wake up every morning, turn on my computer and gaze upon the faces of those who have fallen for a lie...how heartbreaking it is, yet how necessary it is.

Al Fishman, Detroit Area Peace and Justice Network, is an inspiration. He's been doing this for years and I believe many of us learned a lot from his speech and his willingness to remain committed. I am one step closer to joining the contingent on Sept. 24 in D.C. The Peace and Justice network is a contingent of local and national peace organizations working together to put the protest on.

I was amazed by the intelligence of Bankole Thompson, city editor for "The Michigan Citizen" and we (PassingFair and I) begged him to run. I also came away wishing he were the one in Wolf's seat on CNN. Here is a man who has the courage to say it is "not enough" for the media now to question Scotty...they should have been doing it all along. I hope we hear more from him.

Professor Bob Sedler is a professor of law at Wayne State and is widely recognized for his work not just in Constitutional Law but in Civil Rights and Free Speech in particular. He is an adviser for the ACLU and it appear a good friend and adviser to Rep. Conyers.

Also, an ex-CIA agent and friend of Valerie Plame flew in to speak with us. It was quite chilling listening to him speak of just what Rove and this administration has done to an agent of their own government in order to "get them". It is also quite chilling to realize that many of our agents in the field no longer wish nor want to work for a government that they cannot trust. Prior to today, I had not even thought that this administration's lack of action would create such an obvious problem.

Most of ALL, I met some wonderful everyday people from DU and outside of DU, and it really invigorated me. As Tony Trupiano said today, let this be the day the things begin to change.

It was a wonderful day to be a Democrat!

3. I wish you could have too. The group they brought together to speak
was an excellent choice, with all areas covered...from a soldier's mom to a member of the media, and best of all, getting to shake the hand of the man who has our backs! :hi:

7. Being in the living presence of so many people angry over the same
things, dedicated to fighting for the same things is a wonderful thing. I, a stick in the mud, stay at home mom am seriously considering going to D.C. in September...and that's something. ;)

17. Sounds wonderful! :^) My day listening to Cindy Sheehan
was a bit quieter (report on that here: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=156&topic_id=732&mesg_id=732 )
and I didn't meet any other DUers, but I did enjoy talking to other progressives face-to-face instead of on a messageboard for a change.

Cindy mentioned Rep. Conyers and his work on DSM. It sounded like that hearing was a very powerful moment for her.
