What the difference is between a Municipal and a Public Golf Course?
I was just looking at the New version of The Weather Channels "Desk Top Weather," and noticed that their are more "Municipal" and "Public" Golf Courses around where I live than "Private" Golf Clubs, but what the hell is the difference between the two?

1. Municipal is owned by the city & public means it is private-owned....
but open to the public to play there for a fee.

I have no idea if this is true, just a guess.

2. municiple means...

...that your tax dollars go to support it's upkeep. And that's much more expensive than you may imagine.

i notice how i cant use much of some parks, because it has been arrogated for golf, for the few Adam Smiths that play golf.

Not fair.

Wouldnt it be nice to see golf links torn up and trees planted, to create wildwoods in cities, and maybe some formal gardens, too?

with vine covered trellises, archways, hedge lanes, and the whole Versailles atmosphere?

7. Also, maintaining a Golf course requires a HUGE amount of Water,
Something that is almost never mentioned when water issues are discussed.

6. A "municipal" golf course (or park or whatever) is owned by a
...duh, municipality (a city, usually but could be a county, parish or other governmental entity) which automatically makes it "public."

Privately-owned golf courses are generally "public" in that they allow anyone from the "public" to purchase their services...just like a restaurant or gas station.

"Private" courses are generally (maybe always?) are essentially reserved to "members" who have paid money for the privilege of membership.

A lot of them are at country clubs which are usually of the "private" flavor but there are many exceptions to everything I've mentioned.
