"Raging Grannies" arrested in Tucson after trying to enlist!!
Edited on Mon Jul-25-05 09:17 AM by Skinner

US anti-war grannies face justice
Elderly members of a US anti-war group called the "raging grannies of Tucson" are due in court following a protest at an Arizona military recruitment centre.
They have been accused of trespassing after entering the centre earlier this month, saying they wanted to enlist.

The group, mostly women in their 60s and 70s, said they wanted to go to Iraq so their grandchildren could come home.

An army spokeswoman says the protesters were not serious about enlisting and were harassing recruiters.

2. Now these "Grannies" put their money where their mouths are
Nancy Hutchinson stated that they should contact their legislators rather than "bother" recruiters? Whats the matter, can't she take some elderly people getting in the recruiters faces? I hope they are cleared of all charges and do indeed contact their legislators. Every day.

6. so on the flip side, could citizens file a police report on recruiters for
harassment?

I never thought of that before. Say, for example, you had a teenage son and recruiters were constantly trying to get to him. Could harassment charges be filed or are military recruiters exempt? Could you get a restraining order? If so, then the recruiters couldn't be in the school when the student was there, right?

Just thinking out loud.

7. It does sound like they are harassing recruiters
but oh what a PR stunt.

What are they going to do to them? Anything they do will immediately put them back in the news.

When they get in front of the cameras they should ask:

'Where are all the pro-war grannies? Why aren't they volunteering for duty? How come it's only anti-war grannies who are asking to serve?'

8. "An army spokeswoman says the protesters were not serious about enlisting"
And if they were serious, would then the Army take them???? That is indeed the question that begs to be asked.
