Advice Please! What can I do with my old cell phone?
Mine died yesterday, but the Sprint guy said it could be fixed by someone w/ technical know-how. I can't even change the time on my DVD player, so I bought a new one.

I remember, somewhere, a charity that would take my old phone and do something useful w/ it. Anyone have any suggestions??

1. I'd like to know this, too.
I'd thought of women's shelters, maybe.

4. There are also depots that recycle electronic items
They're not everywhere, but they've been popping up here and there to address the huge amount of electronics going into landfills when they don't need to.

8. I don't think the thing is ready to be recycled.
It's less that two years old. Someone-who's not me- could probably get it to work.

thanks guys!!

5. Battered women's shelters typically have taken working phones...
since you don't have to have a subscription to dial 911.

I occasionally see recycling events too..Maybe call United Way, Salvation Army, whatever shelters are listed in your phone book?

7. Try donating to at a Mosque near you......
....just kidding :spray:

Actually, Goodwill Industries might find old cell phones useful, also the Salvation Army has donation centers for old electronic equipment.

11. Check with your congressional representative
some of them accept donations of cell phones and then distribute them to women's shelters or charaties. I got rid of mine that way recently.

12. I donate mine to a local animal rescue.
They can get some money for them.

Whatever you do, don't just give it to the little recycling bins they have at Circuit City and Best Buy - many charities can use them.
