(From the diaries -- kos)
Seymour Hersh says the US government has videotapes of boys being sodomized at Abu Ghraib prison in Iraq.

"The worst is the soundtrack of the boys shrieking," the reporter told an ACLU convention last week. Hersh says there was "a massive amount of criminal wrongdoing that was covered up at the highest command out there, and higher."

"New Abuse Pics Repulse Congress

WASHINGTON, May 12, 2004

(CBS/AP) Members of the U.S. Congress viewed fresh photos and videos of Iraqi prisoner abuse on Wednesday, and said they included disturbing images of torture and humiliation.

"The whole thing is disgusting and it's hard to believe that this actually is taking place in a military facility," said Sen. Dianne Feinstein."

1. the question should read...
what has ANYONE done?

Except the administration. They have stonewalled and delayed and now they want to not release of these new series of pics and vids at all. NO-ONE has done a thing about how bad it was (and presumably still is) and THAT is more shameful than anything.

if we point the finger, point it at all guilty parties. Rep's for downplaying it, Dem's for not making a stink about it, and the administration for laughing it off and not actually doing a thing about it.

and lets not forget the media for taking too much valium and sleeping at the wheel for the last 5 years.

2. ok,what has anyone done
that is fair
it is also fair to reserve special scorn for those that PRETEND to be democrats and pretend to be the alternative to Bush and the Republicans?

3. You suggest that they do what exactly?
You do realize that the Dems are powerless right now , don't you? Without a majority in either the House or the Senate there is nothing they can do. They can't even launch an official investigation. What are YOU doing about the situation? Are YOU working for the Democratic party to help take back Congress?

4. People aren't ready to believe this...
...they just won't.

On a teacher board, I've posted as much as I can find on the torture, including child torture, and I get crickets.

I did get a response from a righty teacher (not a Bush supporter, though) who said something like, "Even if it is true, we can't release the pictures because it would endanger our soldiers over there."

5. Democrats fear the backlash--innocent people will be killed.
If these pictures are what everybody says the are--their release will create a backlash throughout the world. Innocent people are going to lose their lives.

The Democrats are afraid that the Republicans will pin the backlash on them for pressing to release these horrible images and will somehow manage to pass the blame for what happens after these pictures are released from the people who perpetrated and covered up for these crimes to those who exposed them. They know the power of the Republican Noise Machine and the knee jerk reactions of the American people.

I'm for releasing the pictures because I believe that the American people need to know what is going on in their name. It is easy to say that sitting at my keyboard on an anonymous Internet forum. It may not be so easy to say this when you are an elected official responsible for the lives of Americans serving their country in a war zone.

I'm not saying they're right--Im just saying I understand why they are letting the ACLU and other groups do the heavy lifting on this one.

6. innocent children ARE being raped
ii know what you mean but how can i see it as anything else than racism?
its more important that no innocent american soldier MIGHT get harmed by the democrats in congress hammering this issue till the government is embarrassed enough to do something than it is to stop the rape of children and expose and punish the rape of children.
You know how that looks to the rest of the world?
