I know this is not a good attitude, but I have an awful feeling Rove is gonna get away with his nonsense. That this CIA leak is almost like a sick tease that won't come to nothin in the end. And then Bush will continue his pyromaniac ways and keep on destroyin the USA until he is forced out in 2008.

opposed to all the lying they've been doing.

20. I whole heartedly agree.
It might take a while, but when it does, it will be something to watch. For some reason, some people just do not get it. The truth always wins out. Most of the time it works its way out in the strangest most unexpected ways. Hang in there everyone, there time is a comin.

6. Geez, you people get discouraged easily.
Do you really think this would have gotten this far if they were just doing it for show? The CIA and JCS J-5 staff have a long planning horizon. You think you can pull down BushCo with one yank?

It'll work out. Hang in there.

33. Actually I get my hopes up very easily.
It's just that after years and years of obvious misbehavior going unpunished I've become quite jaded. It seems like I don't have the emotional energy to be encouraged without seeing the word Indictments! as a headline.

8. Even if they don't "get away with it", they do: this is a distraction
Like the SCOTUS pick, the Rove scandal is a distraction from the DSM. The worst that will happen to Rove is that he'll be 'fired' from his WH job and have to get his nominal paycheck from some other branch of the corporatocracy. Their goal is not to save Rove (tho that would be nice) but to save themselves from the DSM.

The DSM and supporting documents are evidence of the kind of thing people were hanged for in 1946. BushCo definitely want all that to go down the memory hole soonest, so they're more than willing to give up a few valuable cards such as Rove to make it happen.

14. Exactly.
They're running scared, that's for sure. IMHO, the more answers Fitz tries to get, the more question arise.

I don't hold out any hope for the cabal at this time.

but i think it's because there's a sea change in where power lies in this country -- and it's not all on capital hill.

but in the hands of people who occupy boardrooms and corporate office chairs.

28. we have seen the bad guys win too often
in the current political and business climate so it's only natural to think they'll get away with it again. There is no certainty that they won't, as we all know they will use every means, even (what used to be) criminal means. It will come down to whether our country still has enough integrity to "police" itself. This is a huge test of the system. Questions: Whether our mechanisms for exposing this kind of corruption and abuse of power are strong enough. Whether we have enough people in positions of power who care. Whether the public cares enough and can exert enough pressure (which depends alot on the media). I say it's about 50-50 at this point. But lately I have more optimism that some form of resistance to these villains is building.

People who have reason to believe in the system will tell you the bad guys are going down. People who have been made to feel powerless, who have little faith in the system, will tell you to give up. I say we don't know quite yet and this will be a critical test of whether or system IS working or not. Your fear reflects a legitimate worry, quinnox. We have to be ready to face that the system is not working very well and that it needs fixing. At some point soon we will at least know for sure which way it's going. We WILL know. Meanwhile we have to stay active and aware and fight the queasies on this roller coaster ride of (I think) historic proportions. There will be opportunities for success if we don't give up. "No adult of sound mind can be an innocent bystander" (from that Bruce Cockburn song mentioned in the link). Very applicable to the current climate. Often people know what's really going on but refuse to see it. Too much effort to deal with it. At least we know it, we see it, and we know we want something better than this.

40. thanx
I don't think it hurts to take stock of where we are emotionally and psychologically in these turbulent times. It's normal to feel worried in the face of this mind-blowing arrogance and abuse of the privileges of government. As we watch what unfolds now, I hope more regular citizens begin to see the nefarious patterns at work and how ruthlessly we are all being used. And then go from victimization to a healthy anger and positive action. We have the numbers and we must no longer put up with this situation.
