Evangelicals want a biblically governed state-PA Inquirer story.
This is really wild. It's about a (seemingly) large group of evangelicals involved in a mass exodus to S.C. with secession a real possibliity. Any S.Carolinans here know of this?

http://www.philly.com/mld/inquirer/12214371.htm

<snip>GREENVILLE, S.C. - Frank and Tammy Janoski, the Pennsylvania pilgrims, have landed.

With their four children, they have settled into a little subdivision in the country, the first transplants of a movement that wants to bring legions of conservative Christians here to turn South Carolina's government into a biblically inspired oasis.>

....and how's this for flip flopping?

<snip>"We believe that Christ's admonition to go and make disciples of all nations does not exclude any facets of life,"....gee, so why do you hate gays so much????

1. I seem to recall hearing something about this movement....
a year or so ago.

I don't know if anyone really took it seriously, but they laughed at the Mormons back in the day too. Scary stuff.

2. Fine. Let's contain them all in one small area.
Really, if enough people move to S Carolina, and want to have a theocratic government in that state let them! Democracy is the will of the people.

5. Let them secede--and here's why I say this
1. We'll have two fewer repuke senators.
2. Fundie whackos from all over the country will emigrate there, including (hopefully) Santorum, Inhofe, Coburn (OK really grows'em!) leaving the United States a theocracy-free zone.
3. When we take back the country, we'll be able to outlaw advocating theocratic rule so no other fundie sicko can take over the country again.

18. Thanks for the link. What a scary bunch of freaks.
But I won't miss them in our community. The only thing that bothers me is if they start getting more and more states to follow till they have most of the South under their control.

Another scary thought...if Rethugs set up lots of military bases in those states. :scary:

10. They don't seem to get it
They are just the same as the tailiban.

Now given the chance they would round up all the undesirables and mass murder them in the name of their God. The only thing stopping them is really the it is against the law.

13. It's been discussed before
I think South Carolina democrats and the more religiously sane there would be willing to "take one for the team," and move out of the state, selling their homes to these religious pilgrims. Once they've reached saturation (or whatever you want to call it), we build a big wall - or we have them build a big wall on their side of the border - around the state to keep the devil out. Cut them off totally - after all, God will provide.

15. They've tried this before, and it didn't do so well.
I relocated to Greenville from Pittsburgh, Pa. in 1987. We had a Secretary who was part of a movement like this. Her entire Church group had moved to Greenville from some town in Ohio. They stayed for about 2 years, and sudden;y decided to all move back to Ohio! Poof..thay were all gone!

When you see comments against them from a Dean of Bob Jones Univ., you can be pretty sure this plan will fail.

19. ABC is going to cover this on its evening newscast tonight
What they're doing- setting up a separatist theocracy- is exactly the opposite of what they are saying.

The quote on ABC was something like "We're tired of government interfering in every facet of our lives" but it seems like they want to set up a government that does rule and control every facet of their lives. It makes no sense at all.

27. It's government interfering in the capacity....
to control every facet of their lives. They want total control over lives, and the government prevents that.

32. This shit's been in the news for a while .........
I hope this is the full plan:

1: Move to SC

2: Take over all levels of government with their godbots.

3: Secede

4: Have a couple of nearby states join this new 'nation'

5: Leave the rest of us to live a happy, normal life.

My message to them .... buh bye .... and don't let the door hit you in the ass on the way out.

I'll miss Charleston ... a truly beautiful city.
