RW radio off an running with "He deserved it" (London shooting) |
|
Sorry I have been out of the loop for the last few days. Friday no power at work so we were closed.
Running around doing last minute errands Saturday (baby coming this week) I was walking into a store and I see the headlines of the local paper "Bombings in Egypt kill at least 20 scores injured"
What?!?!?
So I sit down that night to watch ABC News. They lead with the horrible bombings in Egypt and the second story "London police made a remarkable admission today....."
I almost spit up my soda. THEY KILLED THE WRONG GUY???!?!?!?
-truth be told Imus mentioned that we hadn't gotten the whole story Friday morning on his radio show-
GOOD LORD!!!
So on my way in this morning B-leaguer Glenn Beck couldn't stop talking about how this Brazilian (eyewitness determinations of his country of origin -Pakistan AND South Asia- weren't so accurate) DESERVED IT!!!
HE was getting off a bus and onto a train just like the bombers of 7/7/05 so NATURALLY the police shot him
HE didn't IMMEDIATELY yield to their commands of HALT!!! (no mention that he didn't speak English)
Then Beck was praising the London cops for their head shots (no mention from other eyewitnesses that he tripped and fell and the cops shot him from point blank range)
Beck is TIRED of the cops having to second guess themselves all the time.
And on and on and on - you get the idea.
I am sure this was a huge topic here on DU over the weekend but I just wanted everyone to know that this is going to be the spin all over the place starting today.

1. well, while I haven't read up on it |
|
and don't think he deserved it, I also don't want to rush to blame the police involved in the incident, there's plenty of blame to go around, a guy in a heavy coat running into the Tube on a summer morning? after the two weeks that just passed? come on, that's almost suicide by cop.

7. Have you seen the temperatures in London? |
|
Nothing compared to what we have in the States. Also I've read that his clothing was typical Brazilian attire. They supposedly had the man pinned down, and shot him 5 times.
I usually try to give the cops the benefit of the doubt, but this sounds like a mafia execution to me. This poor guy is dead. Guilty of nothing but not understanding English.

13. He spoke English perfectly |
|
But according to one of the eye witnesses, the police didn't identify themselves as police in any way. This is a death squad which has been trained in Israel, judging from the pictures I've seen they look fairly intimidating, football hooligan style. With hate crimes up 500%, I'd say Jean-Charles had reason to be afraid when three hooligans wielding guns started chasing im.

That's police spin. He wore a jacket. According to one of the eye witnesses, the police didn't identify themselves as police either. I blame the police 100% for this, it was a pure execution. This London death squad has apparently been trained in Israel, I would say they should reconsider some of their routines.

4. They killed a non-terrorist, in other words someone who had.... |
|
...absolutely nothing to do with the 7-7 bombings.

6. "Five in the Noggin"-Fox News's John Gibson |
|
http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,163420,00.htmlNo way to talk about anything but the terror bombing investigation in Great Britain. My faith has been renewed in the Brits. Even though they talk a good politically correct game out in public, evidently, behind the scenes they are as ruthless as I would expect from a civilized country under attack by bloodthirsty barbarians who have been brainwashed.

9. Gibson also loves when government takes privacy away: |
|
"I love the way the Brits have 10 million cameras sticking up the nose of every citizen no matter where they are, except in the loo."
Fucking tool.

10. The real culprit today was fear. |
|
Edited on Mon Jul-25-05 11:14 AM by tubbacheez
The killed man was visibly frightened, according to reports.
The police were tense and quick to react (but perhaps not to deliberately respond).
Nobody likes to admit being scared. But there really is no reasonable way to spin this as a shining example of bravery, competence, professionalism, or virtue... on anyone's part.
While I wouldn't go so far as Roosevelt's famous quote (that "we have nothing to fear but fear itself"), society has become borderline paranoid.
Maybe it's partly due to our population explosion. Too many strangers to get to know; therefore, stop trying and just protect yourself.
Maybe it's partly due to globalization. Travelling is so easy that people wish it were restricted more. Ideas and news spread alarmingly fast. Curtailing civil rights suddenly seems tempting to some.
Judging someone as "deserving" of death is an impossible and wasteful exercise, in my opinion. Regardless of the guy's involvement (or non-involvement) in the 7-7 attacks, I don't think anyone is remotely in any position at this time to pass judgement on his worthiness to another day of life.

12. I noticed that the RW noise machine was downplaying/joking |
|
about the second attempt at bombings. I think that it is too easy for even their listeners to see that the "War on Terror" isn't going so well.
Now this.

16. You're right. The RW is uncomfortable admitting their fear. |
|
So they make queasy nervous jokes about real attempts to kill real lives, and try to paint the perps as clowns or incompetents.
So they make macho proclamations about winning this so-called and undefined war.
False courage is the surest sign of true fear.

15. The problem is the Cops did have probably cause to |
|
stop him and ask qusetions (a large jacket in july and the fact he left a house under surveillance)
Now to the rest Beck is an idiot... this is a tragedy of a lot of steps that could have been taken over oh sixy seconds max, that could have stopped the cops opening fire the way they did.
What this needs to lead to, as I have said before, if this is not to happen again, is a full review.
As to cops not having to quetion what they do... again beck is an idiot... the whole incident, and it is tragic, took sixty seconds max. The officers had seconds to decide what to do once he entered that subway train.. if that much. Here in DU we have had alreaady days to discuss this... and if this goes in front of a jury, they will have months to discuss it.
Now he did speak English and some witnesses do say the cops identified themselves, others say they did not. These were undercover Scottland Yard, and that may have been part of the problem.
We will have months, I hope they review their procedures, so this death will not be in vain.
