The "De-hannitization" of Hampton Roads, VA Begins (Great News!)
I'm an active duty Navy member stationed in Hampton Roads Va. Hampton Roads (or Tidewater) comprises the cities of Norfolk, Va Beach, Portsmouth, Hampton, Suffolk and Newport News. It is one of the largest media markets in America.

We have 2 major talk radio stations in this area. Both carried nothing but right wing "hate talk" 24/7. I would wear my uniform with my ribbons and stripes signifying over 20 years of service to my country. I COULD NOT EVEN GET A TRAFFIC OR WEATHER REPORT WITHOUT FIRST HAVING TO HEAR WHAT A "COMMUNIST, TERRORIST SYMPATHIZING, AMERICAN HATING LOW-LIFE" I was.

Well, not anymore!!!!!

"Norfolk native Ed Schultz joins the WTAR lineup from 3pm to 5pm weekdays."

He'll be on opposite Sean Hannity. Can't wait to see his numbers pound Hannity in the dirt.

1. We have one station that spews that crap all day long.
It used to be balanced, but 3 hours of Rush; 3 hours of Hannity, 2 or more hours of Savage and 2 or 3 of Laura Ingraham in the morning. Gosh, I hate it, but sometimes when I want to get my adrenalin flowing when I drive, I'll listen to their crap. And it is. I can't believe these people have so many followers. Of course they don't let anyone get in that has a viewpoint different from their own.

2. That's outstanding! Next WTAR needs to pick up some or all
of Air America. At least I can start listening to AM radio again, if only for 2 hours. Thanks for the info.

3. Do they still have those signs
That say "Dogs and sailors, keep off the grass"?

I was stationed at NAS Norfolk in '69-71, and they were all over the place.

6. My dad was stationed at NAS in Norfolk at the same time you were.
I was born in the Portsmith Navel hospital while he was there.

Wonder if you ever crossed paths?

9. Signs Have Been Gone Awhile
People have actually accepted the Sailors and the Navy has done a good job of getting folks to actually join the community, not just visit the strip bars and pawn shops.

Still lots of Go-Go Clubs and Pawn Shops though.

It really has become a nice place to be stationed. I live 3.1 miles from some of the best beaches in the country.

And believe me, it beats the hell out of where I was stationed before, Lemoore, CA.

"If God was going to give the world an enema, he'd stick the nozzle right in Lemoore, CA."

10. I Didn't Know that He was From Norfolk Either
but it really makes you appreciate the absolute "iron-fisted" grip the right-wing has on talk radio.

Here was a popular local personality, with a highly rated show, and it took them this long to give him a slot in his hometown???!!!

I love that they are putting him opposite Hannity, and I also love that he's taking Dr Laura's normal time-slot.

That's two birds with one stone.

7. Thanks for the info
May I ask the # on the dial, since I never listen to AM because of all the hate shows. This is really good news, now we need to get Air America on.
