Centrist Dems want to expand military...?
How is this a help to the Dem party?

If the dang military can't meet its recruiting goals, then how does this help? Am I missing something?

Now, what I think would be a better way to go would be for the Dems to increase their pay and benifits and then pledge never to use the military for political reasons like the Bushies have.

If anything, it sounds like this is an idea created by people who have never been in the armed forces before.

1. They even admit that it's all for show, nothing to do with need.
Just what we need 100,000 more troops to drain the economy and piss off the world.

3. It's a pathetic ploy
It's also transparent.

The Democrats should be fighting the real war, which is the war of the powerful against the rights of average Americans.

4. IMHO, "Centrists" = "Republican Lites". How can they get
a DEM elected? If the undecideds want a Republican position, they will vote for a Republican. Please, DEMS, lets move away from this "bigger military" position of appeasement to the RW. If we 500,000 troops in Iraq, the insurgents would continue unabated. The only difference would be that price tag in money and life.

Remember "If you have dug yourself into a hole, quit digging". (I can't remember who said that first.

5. This position is consistent with the opinion of the top brass,...
,...who seek to secure the nation and the Iraqi people. Personally, I simply do not believe that a U.S. force will ever manage to secure the country because their very presence incites perpetual insurgency against an occupier perceived as an exploitative predator.
