Laura Bush's abortion stance...
I told my mom today that Laura Bush & Barbara Bush were pro-choice, as I am 99.9% sure I read here. She asked when & where they went on the record as such. But since I only read it here today, I'm a little clueless. Can anybody give me a link about their abortion stances. I'll be forever in your debt.

Thanks ever so much in advance.

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Laura Bush, the wife of President-elect George W. Bush, said Friday she believes the country could do more to minimize the number of abortions, but also indicated she doesn't believe the 1973 Supreme Court ruling legalizing abortions should be overturned.

"No, I don't think it should be overturned," Mrs. Bush told NBC's "Today Show" when asked about the high court's decision, Roe vs. Wade.

5. Bab's and Laura link
Bab is well-known for her pro-=choice views. She was muzzled after suggesting it wasn't worthy of political platforms back in GHWB's day.

Barbara Bush’s pro-choice inclinations, consistent with the relentless practicality displayed by her heel height and sensible hairdo, was taken to be a much more significant indicator of her husband’s true position on abortion than anything he might have said to pro-life voters.

4. Laura was a Dem....
...maybe she changed parties when she married the Shrub? She also smoked, and was smart as a whip.

What she saw in Shrub, who the hell knows?

6. Of course laura is pro choice
Although when laura has an abortion she prefers to turn it into destruction derby and take more than just the life of her baby.

BAM! yea that was below the belt but so what these Bush fucks deserve the worst.

14. Some reports say that she thought she was pregnant
in fairness it hasn't been proven that she was pregnant but she at least believed she was pregnant therefore by her own words she cared nothing of the danger she was putting what may have been a life growing inside of her.

Where's a fundie when you need one?

9. I think its just them playing politics.
Ive always felt that.

Its a way to throw a bone to the pro-choicers making them think that at least their wives are pro-choice and have their ear, maybe they won't be so extreme.

I think thats all it is. It also makes anti-abortion people figure they can only do so much or they'll make their wife angry.

They both have said they're pro-choice though, that is correct. But its mostly politics imo.

10. From "the War on Choice" by Gloria Feldt
Edited on Mon Jul-25-05 07:56 PM by fudge stripe cookays
the ex head of Planned Parenthood:

pp. 19-20

"The Bush family's relationship to reproductive issues is a cautionary tale for the country. Former President George Herbert Walker Bush, as a congressman in the 1970s, was a strong proponent of reproductive rights. He was such an ardent supporter of international family planning that his colleagues nicknamed him Rubbers. In fact, George H.W. Bush's parents helped him found a chapter of Planned Parenthood."

That changed when Bush became Reagan's running mate.

"I can't imagine what Barbara Bush makes of some of her son's extreme positions. She herself has been perfectly straightforward about her pro-choice stance. "for me, abortion is a personal issue-- between the mother, father, and doctor," she wrote in her memoir. "Abortion is not a presidential matter. Education is the answer. Morals cannot be legislated.

What's more, George W's wife, Laure Bush, has made it clear that she, too thinks abortion should be a private decision. "No, I don't think should be overturned," she said on the Today Show in 2001, before she was silenced on the matter. And Bush is surrounded by other close advisors who are pro-choice. Condoleeza Rice has said she's pro-choice, and believes "there's a lot of room in the middle ." Secretary of State Colin Powell has been very clear on the issue: "I believe in a woman's right to choose."

Hope it helps!

11. Did you know that George H.W. Bush
used to be publicly pro-choice? He switched in order to suck up to the RWingers, because he wanted to be Reagan's VP, so that he could then become president himself.

15. Wouldn't that be a kicker!
But seriously, I don't think she's as bad as, say some of the female Republican Senators.

And, a final thanks to everyone!
