official beginning of the "chalk revolution"
Edited on Tue Jul-26-05 08:35 AM by rainy
People, take to the streets and sidewalks with any color of chalk. Make anti-war-bush artworks or just write messages. BUSH IS A WAR CRIMINAL would be a good message.
I'll be out today with chalk in hand, is anyone willing to join me? Would this be a good way to get our points across without protesting, which no one takes notice of anymore anyway?

they mentioned all kinds of issues and mentioned www.Buzzflash.com for news.

I like the idea. I've know others that wanted to write things but were concerned that paint could be ruled as destruction of property or defacing. Chalk is good!

13. there's a bar in johnson city, the Down Home
they've kept sharpies in the bathrooms since i can remember. it inspired (me at least) to carry black magic markers for years. bathroom free verse.

soon evolved into posters. other things. it's real and good to "publish."

24. actually, there's markers in the MENs room as well
Edited on Tue Jul-26-05 12:51 PM by nashville_brook
:)

men actually seem to spend more time on their creations. and they paint the rooms in august, so you might either get a clean slate or a representation of the year past.

go up 3 exits to the watauga/unaka streets (they are one-way). go right on unaka turn at 3rd left onto Main St. it's at the next light. on the corner of main and watuga.

Next weekend, friday Blue Highway ($16 adv) and saturday Hector Qirko ($12 door).

if you like bluegrass see blue highway. if you like blues see HQ (great live show!)

on edit -- i thought you meant next week -- but that gives you a good sense of the kind of music they do. eccletic on the "players" side. it's rare to see mediocre playing there.

16. that reminds me of the guy who designed a bike-mounted dot matrix
printer to spray protest signs on the pavement. He used some kind of spray paint or chalk I think...

Here's the story:

18. The Shadow Project is next week
This year, August 6, 2005, is the sixtieth anniversary of the bombing of Hiroshima. Once again we will offer the Shadow Project to all the people of the world. The Shadow Project is political art, by the people, for the world.

On the day before August 6th, we draw chalk shadows on streets and sidewalks, remembering the human shadows burnt into the streets of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. We do this so that on Hiroshima Day our neighbors will see these chalk outlines, and determine to never again cast nuclear shadows on the earth.

Not long ago, thirty-five million people marched in the streets against war. On August 6, 2005, we can let thirty-five million chalk shadows speak for us, and insist that nuclear policy be directed toward peace instead of war.

Please use the index at the left (see site) to explore the history of the Shadow Project, to find out which cities have done their own Shadow Projects, who is doing one this year, and how you can participate.
