I feel helpess and enraged
I have no control over my country. None. (Not even through the election system any more.) But what it does reflects on me.

Illegal wars and black op teams that overthrow democratic governments.

Sanctioned torture and rape.

Selling arms to unstable and undemocratic regimes.

Destruction of the environment.

Rampant cronyism.

Squashing the little people under their thumbs whether through military or corporate might.

I can't wrap my head around how badly this country behaves. I can't believe RWers can wave their little flags and sing "God Bless America". Why the heck would he bless the things we do? Sure we do some good stuff in the world, but how can we sing our praises about those things when we do all that other stuff?

Flagwaving RWers are so naive.

*Spoiler alert. Fervent, desperate prayer ahead. Bail now if that sort of thing isn't for you.*

Please, God. I know you don't owe us any favors. But please, let these torture pictures come out. Let the leak investigation deliver indictments to every criminal in the White House. Let the light of true justice shine everywhere there is an injustice trying to hide.

And let the scales fall off the eyes of the flag wavers. Let them _truly_ care about honor and dignity and help us to wrest control from these crooks and liars and set about rebuilding our nation on a foundation of decency. And let them acknowledge that we owe so much in restitution to those other nations we have harmed.

For once, Lord, let them mean it when they say they stand for family values, and then let them recognize that all the inhabitants of this planet are indeed one family.

Amen.

1. It has been a long hard road since 2000
Everything that could go wrong, has gone wrong with this administration. Hang in there, they are going down, either one by one or the whole house of cards. It will be worth the wait..... Things will change.....

9. I know but a lot of the wrong we have done happened before this admin. It
is just that this one is far and away worse than any other one.

I don't want to go back to the way we were before. I want to be BETTER than that. Fair trade, not free trade. No CIA black ops. No more manufacturing and using DU, land mines, and cluster bombs.

5. The latest thing for me has been all the people
supporting Tancredo in his call to nuke Mecca. Several letters to the editor, basically asking, "why wait?" Others showing up to counter-demonstrate at a Dump Tancredo rally, supporting that nutcase for President.

How far will people go when they don't think twice about bombing holy sites, located within allied territory?

The depths of stupidity amaze me.

20. No kidding.
It's as if holding millions of innocent people hostage... and using our WMDs to do it... could ever be confused with holding high moral ground.

I can understand the feeling of frustration in these silly sentiments. That's a message I hear loud and clear. The war is going poorly. Horribly, compared to what the salesmen said before it started.

And now that changing one's mind (even in the face of newly acquired wisdom or information) is equated with flip-flopping, people don't want to back down. This option is unacceptable to them.

And for politicians, the situation is worse. Inflated egos, solidarity with their party, and the stigma of being "wrong" can kill a career. They are personally and deeply vested in their previous comments.

I dislike this mindset. There's no opening for adaptation to changing circumstances. There's no room for growth or evolution. America loves the man who, at age 15, somehow settled upon the "right" answer and has advocated it consistently ever since. America eyes with suspicion anyone who has ever changed his mind.

This is why I'm generally kind to Freepers. I'll conveniently forget what they said before if they wish to say something I agree with now.

Even though they would never extend me the same courtesy, I gain something by leaving them a face-saving way out. I gain their awareness of an option they otherwise would be to ashamed to consider.

10. Pick up a decent history of the US Revolution
and see how few people actually were behind it. They took on the mightiest empire in the world at the time. They won. Took a long time, lots of sacrifice and a whole lotta insecurity. But they pulled it off.

Then go here and consider the similarities of our fight today
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=132x1957680

General Washington employed tactics of guerrilla warfare. The same is happening against the neocon invasion of Iraq.

A guerrilla warrior does not always carry a gun. The most dangerous weapon in the arsenal is an idea. Spread those and the fight is not lost.

Never doubt that what we do matters.

It all matters.

Of course, picking fights wisely makes a slightly better impression than chasing rainbows ;)

13. Sekhmet ...prayer

Sekhmet,
I know you know the secrets of hearts, It was you who was misused and betrayed by the arrogance of imperial power of Ra and the yes men the Neteru,You were hurt but, you awoke to the lies come back from the desert,as a raging one, become the power that is beyond the ruler, Sacred and Non serviam...Sekhmet.

Send your redness of shame and go into the darkened places in the people in this administration, take their desire to stop the cruel deeds and Machiavellian doings of all those who would destroy the good things this country has, and lay out the corpse of corruption of our government in the glaring merciless sunlight so that no part or paper will be able to hide itself from public exposure.Take all
the chattering well groomed, coiffed, rehearsed and sold out rotted sepulchers seeking a spotlight expose all the ugliness they hide and the cowardice they have. Sekhmet put a fire in the belly of the media who has a heart and hears that still hear,Make them your agents of change and clean house. Sekhmet chase the truth out of chains of command until it reaches the top , connecting the lines telling the truth kindled by a million hearts and minds finding their own power, freedom, self respect, courage conviction moral outrage, compassion, and spirit to do what needs to be done, kindle in them an undying respect for human dignity, freedom, equality, fairness, justice, sovereignty, and human rights. Sekhmet make all the corruption they do in secret be visible and clearly understood for what it is in the public's perceptions,so that no one can deceive themselves or be deceived anymore by flattery or deceptions, bribes, threats or false promises..

Sekhmet let this administration and all the other unseen and seen people that fund it,help it in other ways , and follow it's empire designs be seen for the danger to peace fairness and justice that they are. Sekhmet Go forth and take the bullies voices and make them confess.

Sekhmet expose all government exploiters that abuse, lie, cheat, steal and hate to scrutiny and indignation.

Sekhmet compel all the well funded hypocrites and con men to confess their crimes .Force them to change their ways,to be mistrusted, disbelieved, suffering for their abuses effectively stopped by your leonine flames..

Sekhmet make all those hypocrite, greedy, lying, sociopath narcissists who seek power to misuse the public power structure, and corrupt it,and profit from it ,fail and be shamed.

May all those who would desire or who make themselves oblivious to the harm they do to others for profit and oppress others to steal from them cease and be forced to understand the damage they do to other's lives Let them live as they would have others live....Let those who mislead people and betray their trust with delight be ashamed of themselves and do the time for their crimes..Sekhmet make this administration fall victim to it's own grandiose designs.

Make them _all_ be accountable even to the least of us, for their words, hypocrisies and actions, every one of them.Make them appear to the public as bullying, sickening, greedy, cruel inhuman and pathetic as they really are in private.Give them no place to hide from themselves Sekhmet .Give the people your fury and wisdom,Mother Sekhmet.

Let the Bush admin be shamed and arrested for their reckless pursuit of self aggrandizing power, and abuse, the betrayal of the people who are not part of the top 1 percent of the uberrich mercenary merchant class.Let the darkness residing in their hearts and all their secret games, secret motives, secret schemes, and secret plans of domination and manipulation be exposed fully and may it be disclosed in entirety.May the Bush admin be subjected to the harsh scrutiny of mass realizations that we the people have been lied to and conned by criminals.

Sekhmet fill the public with your righteous anger, wisdom and indignation at those in power who would seek to dominate, abuse, spy, deceive a free people.Sekhmet stop those who craft corrupt laws and ignore social contracts to fatten their wallets and play king..

Sekhmet come upon this administration like a plague of leaks ..coming from a billion sources as to be unstoppable. Make this house of lies meltdown as the Bush admin succumbs to deluge of it's own filth as the the searing, surround of purifying flame burns this empire down.So many hostile awake, honest, clear, strong, and wiser eyes everywhere that can see through any mind game made of marketing ,threats, flattery, and fraudulent elitist criminal intentions dressed up as'conservatism'.
Sekhmet amputate the supports for the right wing... For it is diseased infected and it stinks of corruption and has rotted anti-spiritual fruits. Stop this diseased administration's machinations before it kills our liberty and sickens society with a moral cancer beyond hope.

Because in alot of ways all of us seek the same thing (justice, sanity freedom and human rights)whichever deity or non diety we call upon to help ourselves do what we have to do in the real world to make things right and endure it when they are not and we can't do much about it.
I just want the bullies OUT of power and to never be trusted again. I admit I call to Sekhmet wnen I feel small and helpless as a kitten in the face of horror. Sekhmet's dream just might only poof put my fur in reality as I arch my back and show my needle like claws to feel bigger in the face of a terrible enemy but it might be all I need to get by this time.

I wouldn't be wearing a dress,I would be wearing something closer to egyptian armor.Sekhmet was not in one form she had a male aspect too,she is in fact a transgodess/god. That is one reason I identify with hir so.
Click here for lewd plastic overdone boobs that are obscene imitations of the real thing.I wouldn't be caught DEAD in any of these things.
And Sekhmet I think would be dishonored by it.

30. Bush is the result of several factors:
1) He cheated in the 2000 & 2004 elections.
2) The Democrats turned into the party for the common-corporation, not the common citizen.
3) Neither Kerry or Gore were fighters.

On a list as to why the BFEE is in charge right now, the Green party ranks below cottage cheese.

Before you condemn the Greens, remember who fought for Democracy in Ohio after the 2004 fraud. It wasn't the establishment Democratic Party.

Edited on Tue Jul-26-05 12:30 PM by brainshrub
The Greens won the dignity and self-respect that the Democrats surrendered so easily in the face of a crisis.

No matter how you spin it, the Democratic Party of 2004 was the party of appeasement and surrender.

51. Gore was a fighter and still is.
He was fighting for us when he held congressional hearings on toxic waste in Tennessee which expanded to include Love Canal. He was fighting for you when he championed the internet only to have the corporate owned media monopoly trash him for it. I guess he felt the average American should have a right to unfettered information and the ability to free speech more than it has ever been in the history of our nation. He was fighting for the environment and recognized global warming over 15 years ago when he wrote "Earth In The Balance" a call to arms to save our planet. He was fighting to have the votes counted after the 2000 coup, stretching the results from this "election" out longer than any in history only to be trumped by a Republican controlled Supreme Court, Republican controlled Florida State Legislature and their potential set of dual electors, a Republican Congress that would not recognize Democrat electors from Florida had the U.S. Supreme Court ruled in his favor and the votes been counted. We are only now getting a idea of how much Jeb Bush recused himself, with his private meeting with our current Supreme Court nominee Roberts. Al has continued to fight for us after Bush came to power with his moveon speeches were he called Bush a "moral coward" who cannot say no to the oil, mining, and timber industries etc. that paid his way to power at the expense of the environment. Al was the first Democrat that I am aware of to come out fighting against a preemptive war with Iraq in the spring of 2002, Al actually thought we should wage war against the people that attacked us on 9/11 which did not include Iraq. The corporate owned MSM promptly said Al was ranting without discussing the content of his speech. No one in American History that I am aware of has been slandered as much as Al by our so called "fourth estate watchdogs". I can think of no more tenacious fighter for the American People and the planet for that matter than Al Gore.

you are describing the history of the United States since the destruction of the Maine in Havana. There was never 'control' though the election system. yes, yes, yes, there were just as many dirty tricks by republicans, but my point is that this is nothing new.

34. I'll join ya' in that prayer/meditation, GreenPartyVoter,...
,...and add a bit to it: Please, God, help us to be intimate with our own strength and courage to persist through these dark times and relentlessly pursue justice for all.

Amen.

39. *hugs* We need to harness our power and make some changes in this world.
I believe in the power of prayer or positive thinking, but think also feel that some concrete action should back it up. :)

42. you said it all right there j
i know we believe these same things

God is in this for sure. i surely dont know how and of late i all the more want to move to canada or anywhere really but if im going to trust - really trust my faith - then i know for me that means to hold on and do the best i can while im here

the path *i* have been given in recent years is to be quiet and be patient which figures because in recent years is exactly when i want to take all manner of action
i was so the type a personality (and got angry and focused on the wrong things etc) but God had other things in mind for me so my path now is to turn my eyes upon Jesus and stand back but that also means i stand with all of you

and i know exactly what youre saying when you talk about combining prayer and acts
its a powerful awesome combination

prayers for you and all that this means
i do believe right will win out in the end but it will be a difficult journey as we are seeing

44. Canada beckons to me too. We're going for a visit next month, but
hubby will make us come back home again. (Plus I can't just abandon the cats, and to be honest I feel I need to stay here and try to make things better since my boys aren't currently at risk for being drafted.)

47. at least you get to visit that does sound nice
i have cats as well and was just thinking that canada doesnt likely let you bring in your cats though i dont know for certain

and i also remember looking into moving several yrs ago so i know a little about it
i imagine its even more competitive now because unless you have a good deal of money or are marrying someone there (hey theres an idea) i dont know how people just move there
i think if you have a job offer its certainly easier but they may still require you have x amount of money so that youre secure for awhile
and even going there as a student you need about 10k dollars in addition to the school costs

not that i have really looked into this at all~ yeah right

hope you enjoy your visit and who knows what may happen
and i commend you for wanting to fight for everyones future here

48. My kids grandmother was Canadian but unfortunately I don't think
that will help them at all if I ever need to get them out of here. Although maybe we could send them to visit hubby's favorite uncle and they can just forget to come home.

But, that day is a good 10-12 years away. Who knows what we might accomplish between now and then?

53. thats the spirit
and my grandparents are from france but i dont think that gets me anything either though i havent really looked into it
i have no idea why not but i think i heard some time ago that gparents arent the ticket to most places

we shall just have to see what develops and in the meantime we keep fighting the good fight

hope youre not feeling so helpless or angry as when you originally posted
were all here together you know and i just have to trust (as hard as that can be)

take good care and keep venting and posting and whatever else calms and strengthens your spirit

38. I'm there with you.
Both the helplessness and prayers. But 12-step programs will tell ya that's the only time your prayers are real -- when you finally admit you're powerless.

And I've been keeping this quote on my monitor for quite some time as well:

"When I despair, I remember that all through history the way of truth and love has always won. There have been tyrants and murderers and for a time they seem invincible but in the end, they always fall - think of it, ALWAYS." - Gandhi

40. Thank you. I sometimes can remember what Gandhi said, and other times
I feel frustrated because I want to be there to see the payoff. But the truth is I may work my whole life towards justice and not see the end results. I just have to remember as long as there is _someone_ to benefit from those results, then then fight is worth it.

57. I hope this post helps
The destruction of life on earth is accelerating as we wait...as we point fingers at the innumerable reasons. We are so much like princes and princesses, waiting for a knight in shining armor. We call upon God, we search for accountable leaders, we ask for the media to change. But it must be understood that we are the ones who have attained this higher form of wisdom. It is we who must embrace this achievement of evolution and do something with it.

It is not enough to waste our energy, the force that powers the grand march that is our human evolution, merely on external faith or hope (if not just finger-pointing). It is not enough to know what's really going on in the world. It is not enough to feel correct as we wallow in shame and guilt. We are responsible for creating the next chapter, and each of us have the power to do it. We are the people who are sensitive to what this world is and what it could be.

Indeed, everything needed to lead this grand march to the next phase of our evolution is inside of us. What world do you want for yourself and your loved ones? What is your ideal world based on? Who do you need to become in order to live your vision? Start down the path to your new world today. Reach out to the right people and cast brilliant new lights on your relationships. Live with both grace and joy. Open yourself to change, to all of life's possibilities. Let go of the feelings of guilt and ignore that voice of reason.

This is a life-and-death battle over life and death itself. How can we expect life to flourish when we do not allow our lives to flourish?

65. I have forgotten how miserable this country is
The above posts on these boards have no relevance to what i am saying here. The thing i'm experiencing is something far different. Usually after an extended period of time of hearing the same c**p over and over again day after day, week after week, month after month, year after year. You become so dull and sterile from it that you feel like everything is perfect...but it's not really. You know in the back of your mind that everything is all messed up, you know in your heart that everything is screwed over. But you just can't realize it you've totally forgotten what it's like to live in a miserable country with the biggest b**t sucking president in the united states. So anyways that's all i have to say for now, i hope this post proves useful for people out there who have forgotten what it's like to live in this miserable country. I hope to hear from you soon, good luck in all you do.

Signed,
Greg

67. Who is Andy?
I see his face all slapped all over the discussion forum like red paint and i don't even know who this guy is. Could somebody please introduce me to this Andy guy and what political position he plays? Thank you for your time and consideration. I hope to hear from you soon, good luck in all you do. And just a simple explanation would be fine i'm far from in the mood to read long articles right now especially after reading that one about how Bush is corrupt with the terrorists.

Signed,
Greg

68. Andy Stephenson was an election reform fighter. He took on the
paper trails not vapor trails issue, but sadly pancreatic cancer cut his work short.

You can read a piece he wrote here, and if you click on his name you can get more details about what he did and how he was hounded by some insane RWers.
