Woman Accused of Groping Airport Screener
GREEN BAY, Wis. - A 62-year-old woman who was upset about being searched at an airport shoved a security screener and then grabbed her breasts, federal prosecutors said. The woman said she reacted in self-defense to "an absolute invasion of my body."

A jury began hearing evidence Monday in the trial of Phyllis Dintenfass, who was charged with assault of a federal employee. If convicted, the retired technology school teacher could face a year in prison and $100,000 in fines.

Transportation Security Administration screening supervisor Anita Gostisha testified Monday that she saw Dintenfass activate the metal detectors at the Outagamie County Regional Airport in Appleton in September 2004.

Gostisha said she took the woman to another area, where she screened Dintenfass using a handheld wand. Gostisha, a screening supervisor for three years, said she was following protocol when she performed a "limited pat-down search."

2. This needs a kick...
...for all of the times this type of invasive searching has been discussed at DU. Many DUers said they'd never fly again rather than face this; other DUers said they'd fight it if it happened to them. So here's a woman actually facing jail time and a hefty fine for it! Would love to see more DU commentary on this story.

3. They should look into it, but
They should look into whether the screener was following proper procedures, and if not they discipline accordingly. But you don't get to push, shove, hit, grab, or physically interfere with TSA agents. If you don't want to submit to their inspection, you should be allowed to turn around and leave, but the second you get physical with them you deserve to be arrested and jailed.
