DU! Show Yer Love For Teddy Kennedy!
Hope everyone saw his speech at the Congressional Black Caucus forum.
He's not backing down, after all the media whine that's been going on about what he said.

Last night he got a dose of what Bill Clinton knew. When you become flame bait for doing the right thing in America, you will always receive warm comfort in the loving arms of african americans. With such support you become reinvigorated to you can carry on.

I loved his appearance there, he was "slapping that donkey", and I think he thoroughly enjoyed it.

Thank you Ted Kennedy. We do love and appreciate you. :yourock:

4. Once more, with feeling - here are Ted Kennedy's numbers:
In Washington: (202) 224 - 4543

In Boston: (617) 565 - 3170

He's under attack, for sure. I've read here that his staffers have reported his support and opposition are neck-n-neck. He NEEDS to hear more from us. He NEEDS to hear our positive reinforcement!!! Demos who finally show some decent spine should be applauded and sent as many verbal "calcium supplements" from us as possible!!! It really matters, guys!

Then, for good measure, you should also call your own reps in Congress and the Senate and demand that they support him and show spine, too, just the way he did.

11. One of the people...
... I work with called his office, at about the time that the bug-man was on his rant about Kennedy's remarks in the Senate, and said the person answering the call seemed very defensive when she said she wanted to register her comment.

When she said "I want to thank Senator Kennedy..." the relief was audible. Sounded as if she was getting shouted at a lot.

Senator Kennedy this isnt a request but a thank you for calling the Bush adminstration out on their terrible war. I have always admired you senator and your noble family. Its a shame you were never president sir. I bet your parents and your deceased brothers and sisters are looking on the baby of the family you sir with great pride. This is the year to take the country back from the ignorant Bush adminstration. Senator I also wish the Red Sox the best of luck although I am a Orioles fan, I hate the Yankees as much as Boston. I know thats irrelevant sir but I thought I read somewhere you were a fan. Keep it up senator, and we are lucky to have you with us. Thank you

14. That's Beautiful John. Your Letter Makes Me Glad I
posted this thread. I felt a little tug in my heart as I read it.

We gotta start supporting our treasures. Stop letting the opposition, determine the regard you should have for your leaders.

We can get all fired up about supporting the troops in Iraq, but somehow be unpatriotic if we support our troops in the Congress.

15. Learn the disturbing truth about the accident at Chappaquiddick

Learn how Senator Kennedy spent the nine hours after the accident attempting to cover-up his involvement, while Mary Jo Kopechne was left to die in his submerged automobile. http://www.ytedk.com/chapter3.htm

http://www.ytedk.com/

I am still disturbed that someone can skate simply because they have big cash and a family name. There's no excuse for it.

19. There is much more to the Mary-Jo story that was swept under the rug
It's not a political issue it's a case of disrespect for the drowned victim and an act of self-preservation on Teds part. The whole accident was brushed asise and the people have a right to know the truth.

The Kennedys have no more special rights over you or me.

22. That is a very narrow minded perspective.
It was an accident and no one really was out to harm anyone. Shit happens. It happens every day. Hey, you want to focus in on someone..., what about Laura Bush, didn't she run some poor soul over and walk away scott-free?

Another thing; This is a positve thread for the Great Ted Kennedy. Why would one find such pleasure at digging up the past which they have no link to? He deserves respect.

What is the purpose of bringing up this issue other than pure mean thinking and hateful, bitterness....?

21. More on Teddy
- The owner of the cottage was Sydney Lawrence of Scarsdale, New York. After learning of the accident, Lawrence immediately went to Chappaquiddick and inspected the place on Saturday night. He found it had been swept clean of any evidence a party had been held there. "They were real cute about that," he said later. "I only found 8 empty Coke bottles. Even the trash barrels had been emptied."
- A blanket was rolled up at the foot of each twin bed, each so neatly-made that he wondered if they'd even been slept in.

- Once the scene had been cleaned up, Gargan brought the party guests back to the ferry, and then to Edgartown.

- The group was taken to the Katama Shores Inn, where they joined Charles Tretter, Rosemary Keough, and Susan Tannenbaum who had left Chappaquiddick with Gargan earlier that morning. With the entire group assembled, Gargan told the girls, "I think what you should do is get off the island as soon as possible. Nobody knows at the moment that any of you are here, so go home and just keep quiet. Don't talk to anybody until we see what develops - that's the best advice I can give you right now."
- Gargan then gave Charles Tretter the order to, "Put them in the car...... Get them out of here!"

- Gargan had accomplished his clean-up detail with his customary dispatch and efficiency. He had left no evidence behind that a party had taken place at the cottage on Chappaquiddick. And all the guests who had attended had escaped the island before Edgartown police even knew they were there.

"I found it hard to believe the Senator had been in a major automobile accident. His face bore no traces of any marks. He never sat down or appeared in any kind of physical discomfort. If he had been injured, in shock, or confused, nothing of it lingered in our meeting, to my observation."

- You're doing your best to deflect from the real issue here...a tactic often used by the Right to hide their own dirty past.

You guys let the republicans tell you how you should feel about someone. They tell you which ones ought to be your leaders and which ones you ought to shun.

Then we bitch and moan that our representatives don't represent us, but when they do, what do they get? Jeeez.

Look, Ted Kennedy is not running for the presidency people. There's no reason to cut him down or not show that you appreciate his work. Why can't we count our blessings in this party?

His past is no one's business but his own, and what he's doing right here, right now is to be applauded. Any one of those 307 dead soldiers, killed in the wake of a deliberate operation, might very well be named Mary Jo.

48. Why doesn't he get 'more support' from DU?
...probably because Kennedy is suffering the same fate as any Democrat that speaks out against Bush*: they're shunned by the party and made to look like a 'lone voice in the wilderness'.

- The 'party'...under the influence of conservative Dems...have already 'decided' that they won't oppose Bush* on certain issues...including 'national security' and war.

- Byrd suffered the same fate.

- The party as a whole has to back these brave Dems or they'll be ignored by a press too afraid to report the truth.
