2. He should not be fired ...
he should be imprisoned.

If CNN thinks he can continue to work from prison, that is fine with me.

Cheers

3. This is what i think as well
Whether or not he should get to print his column or appear on tv is a seperate issue from whether he should be proscuted for his crimes.

Of course if everybody decided they didn't like traitors and turned the channel when ever he showed up on tv, That'd be nice.

12. I agree on imprisonment.
But hey, we can prosecute the unemployed just as easily as the employed. I say fire his ass, but I'm not holding my breath.

4. Yes, of course.
According to the WP today he was TOLD on two occasions by a representative of the CIA that his story was wrong and NOT to print Valerie Plame's name. He is a worm.

Waiting for some DU contrarians to vote "No". I'll be checking throughout the day...

7. Yes... and then a public flogging followed by a month in the pillory.
Americans should be allowed to throw rotten tomatos and eggs at that ugly face for at least a month... or perhaps a year.

10. His entrails should be cut out and burned while he is still alive.
Thereafter he should be drawn and quartered with his repugnant head placed on a pike at the entrance to DC.

13. Do you think losing a job is appropriate punishment for treason?
He should be called to testify before the court, just like the other journalists (who actually have less to do with the blowing of PLame's cover then Novak does).

14. What he did was not illegal
It was kinda scummy, and he must have known they were revealing her name and job just to get revenge. But that would be a bad precedent. Making him cough up his source is quite another question.

21. A bad precedent??
Novak was told his information was wrong; and by a source more credible than any who were telling him otherwise. That is bad journalism. It's the same thing as any reporter reporting facts that later turn out to be wrong. It's doing a bad job and the last time I checked you can be fired for doing a bad job.

16. Had to vote "No"
Much as I think Novak is a toadying, scum-sucking ventriloquist puppet, having a CIA official tell him not to publish something does not a fireable offense (nor a criminal act) make. He wasn't the one with authorized access to classified information, so he wasn't violating the law by publishing it.

Having said that, of course, I'd much rather that, in possession of the information about Amb. Wilson and his wife, he wrote *that* story - that the administration was trying to get him to release information that would be harmful to national security and, in his opinion as a journalist, such information should not be released and being told such information constituted a violation of confidential national defense secrets.

But I can dream...

He should have been fired 20 years ago since he really brings nothing to his newspapers credibility. He's been nothing but a "low taxes" cheerleader for the last 20+ years.

25. Not just fired, but jailed as well> He is a miserable old shill, and has
the temperment of Ambrose Beirce. In fact, if I believed in re-incarnation, he would fit Bierce to the "T", with the exception of Bierce's apparent lack of fear. Novak is a severe coward, that is the one instance in which he does not resemble Bierce.

26. Yes. To start with.
YMMV, but I don't think of this as "protecting a source." In this case, it appears he's "protecting the criminal."

I know, but what if they're one and the same? I'll leave it to better legal minds than mine to hash that one out.

31. Wow, anyone see him lately? He looks ghastly.
He was on a news clip today and I swear he looked like he'd lost a ton of weight. Very gaunt. I had heard that even though he has a huge ego, he also has a conscience. Appears it is eating him alive.

33. Options One and Two
ARE NOT MUTUALLY EXCLUSIVE, RATHER THEY SUPPORT EACH OTHER.

Also, as far as the free speech answer, that might have some weight if it were an angry public or the government that has to make the decision, but it's his employer. His employer has every right to fire him because he's a dangerous, incompetent boob, and a "reporter" with a rather poor record as far as writing the truth.
