FAUX snooze spin on Valerie Plame. (Unreal.. read the whole thing)
Edited on Wed Jul-27-05 11:43 AM by GreenPartyVoter
WASHINGTON — Outed CIA spy Valerie Plame last fall gave a campaign contribution to go toward an anti-Bush fund-raising concert starring Bruce Springsteen, it was revealed Tuesday night.

It's the first revelation that Plame participated in anti-Bush political activity while working for the CIA.

The $372 donation to the anti-Bush group America Coming Together (search), first reported by Time magazine's Web site, was made in Plame's married name of Valerie E. Wilson and covered two tickets.

The Federal Election Commission (search) record lists her occupation as "retired" even though she's still a CIA staffer. Under employer it says: "N.A."

1. So now contributing to a political
campaign is wrong?

Are these the same people who bitch about how the Election Reform Act is a "violation of free speech"?

2. Did you read the rest of the article? What about these two tidbits?
"A bipartisan Senate Intelligence Committee report found that Plame did arrange her husband's trip even though he repeatedly denied it."

"Wilson — who played an active role in Democrat John Kerry's (search) losing 2004 presidential campaign — said the anti-Bush concert was "great" and told Time that his wife "doesn't recall listing herself as retired."

6. yeah, but
the first is a lie and the second doesn't really matter.

Perhaps she listed herself as retired because her career had been ruined?

Although I have no idea why she wouldn't support the President. I mean, just because she knew that he went to war on false pretenses and then ruined her career, threatened her life and destroyed her privacy, that's no reason to vote against him!

She's been on unpaid administrative leave since her outing in 2003.

5. Well, if anyone destroyed my career and forced me into early retirement...
placed my co-workers in fear for their lives, and by their actions placed innumerable others in grave danger, I'd give some bucks to see them get the ol' heave-ho.

7. Let's see now.
A cabal of Republican operatives outs the CIA affiliation of Valerie Plame Wilson and then feigns shock at the news that she hates them so much that she supports their candidate's opponent in an election. Hmmmm!

Are they certain it is the same Valerie Wilson? Wilson is such a common name. Surely there is more than one Valerie Wilson.

10. Funny thing is - this contradicts an unsubstantiated "talking point" I
heard one freeptard on a radio call tried to make - that she had contributed to Gore's 2000 campaign, and had to list her employer. Therefore, she had "outed herself" according to the freeptard . . .

11. You mean to tell me...
that Valerie Wilson didn't give money to support pResident Bush, even though his administration outed her identity and tried to destroy her credibility along with her husband?? How dare she!! Doesn't she know that it's against the law to support Democrats??

15. "Bought tickets to Bruce Springsteen concert" is a thinly veiled reference
to "HATES AMERICA" as anyone who's ever listened to a Springsteen song can attest.

12. My boss's spin (ex-marine)
He brought Rove/Plame up in a employee meeting and explained it to an employee who hadn't heard the stories. (employee who hadn't heard about the tsunamis until two weeks later). He said it was a bunch of bunk, Plame wasn't undercover, She sent her husband to Niger to discredit the president after the state of the union speech. It was a political witch hunt by typical Bush Haters. I had to correct him and explain that Wilson went to Niger BEFORE the state of the union at the CIA's request. He was a career diplomat who was the Iraqi Ambassador during the first Gulf War, appointed by Bush 41, as well as other assignments in Africa. He gave his findings to the CIA before the 2003 State of the Union speech (no Niger/Iraq connection)and they were ignored by the White House. I also asked why did the CIA ask for the investigation if she wasn't covert? His response was I've been reading those liberal loony websites again.

16. he actually wasn't the ambassador to Iraq.
Minor quibble, but fundies will pick apart anything they can.

He was the charge d’ affaires, which is basically the vice ambassador. When they take the ambassador out, the charge is the guy who needs to hang out in a tough situation (like a war zone).

Typically, when a Charge is in a dangerous post, and performs admirably, he is given an ambassadorship when the dust settles.

That is exactly what happened to Ambassador Wilson.

14. Don't overlook the howler at the end of the story
It goes:
White House officials say Rove was seeking to discredit Wilson's attacks on Bush by noting that Wilson only got picked for the CIA mission because of his wife.

A bipartisan Senate Intelligence Committee report found that Plame did arrange her husband's trip even though he repeatedly denied it.

Um, no. The CIA arranged his trip. Possibly, possibly, she recommended him; maybe she called the travel agent. But "arranged the trip" means the party responsible for authorizing the on-site investigation. Plame never had that authority. It was an official CIA fact finding mission. Authority came from the institution, and from authorities higher up the chain of command than Plame.

20. America Coming Together Was Sept., 2004...
Can't these goons keep their timelines straight?

The Springsteen concert was long after Plame was outed. Her CIA status then, as it is now, was ruined and what was she supposed to write down? "CIA Undercover NOC" as an occupation. Shee

$372? That's an odd amount to make a donation, no? I've never given in that amount, unless, I happen to be BUYING TICKETS TO THE CONCERT. Since the performers were donating their services to various voter registration (I guess that's "anti-bush") groups...and not to a specific candidate or party.

Now ya think Faux would report this if she had bought tix for a Charlie Daniels or Toby Keith concert?

I'll bet they have assigned someone to garbage and sewer duty...going through the family trash and came up with the ticket receipts.

:eyeroll:
