Iraq Signs Military Pact with Iran
Headlines : International
Thu, 7 Jul 2005

Former foes Iraq and Iran announced “a new chapter” in their relations on Thursday, including cross-border military co-operation, dismissing US concerns about Iranian regional meddling.

On his first official visit to Tehran, Iraqi minister of defence Saadoun al-Dulaimi asserted his country’s sovereign right to seek help from wherever it sees fit in rebuilding its defence capabilities.

“Nobody can dictate to Iraq its relations with other countries,” Mr Dulaimi said in a joint press conference with his Iranian counterpart, Admiral Ali Shamkhani.

The two ministers said that a military co-operation agreement, now in the preparation, would include Iranian help with training and upgrading Iraq’s reconstituted armed forces, a process so far overseen by US and coalition advisers.

1. yes, many "... and the winner is Iran!" stories came out
Everyone noticed and was totally unsurprised at Cheney's publicization of nuclear attack plans as a response to this and the upcoming opening of the Iranian Oil Bourse (trading oil for Euros).

2. I've only seen it posted here at DU
Not a peep in the corporate media that I've seen. Perhaps Iran will become Iraq's new partner when we tire of with this dance of death? Talk about an unintended consequence of our 'War on Terror'....

4. Not a peep
from the * administration, as far as I can tell.

This must be making some neocons' heads explode, as their "grand strategic vision" was for a "free and democratic" Iraq to counterbalance bad Islamic Iran. They apparently failed to explain this to their Iraqi puppets.

14. And I'm fairly sure that's why Rummy made his surprise visit
to encourage them to get moving on the constitution.

When we start withdrawing - they will sell it as their idea and the sheeple will buy it with no idea whatsoever about what's really happening there.

5. yep Iran can't but be delighted
the moment the *morons decide to finally pull back an army which had as only goal to not get killed over there , the iranians will jump in to the aid of fractions , gladly trashing the entire country in a civil war ....
And what was once the force that could act for the better , will be reduced to a shadow of it's former self ....all thanks to the patriots in the white house ....thank you * for handing this marvelous victory to violence and tyranny everywhere

governing of the world ,what a whicked game to play .

6. Actually, yes.
And I've had fun with it. For example, who's better off now that Saddam is gone: Iran.

7. This is way too funny
Rummy armed and funded Saddam as our proxy in a war against Islamic Iran. Cheney smacked him back into the bottle when he ran off the leash. Now those two idiots have birthed the Islamic Iran-Iraq Co-prosperity Sphere. Ariel Sharon must be bouncing off the walls.

12. Honestly, I watch a lot of news and haven't heard it mentioned once.
Although I did see it here at DU and on the Ariana Huffington site in her post about what you don't see on the news.

This is a HUGE story and just shows the BushCo power that it's not being talked about every day. I think.

And I brought it up again today because of Rummy's 'surprise' trip to tell them to get a move on with that constitution.
