Women who hate men, when they need a strong arm they ask.... |
|
our husbands to bail them out. This pisses me off. I know lots of women who hate men, don't want to be committed or claim they are too independent, until they need help moving something heavy at their homes. Then, they got the balls to ask other women's husbands to help them out. My girlfriend has this false 'independence' attitude. She's traveled, worldly, stylish, sex goddess, etc. When she has a financial problem, health or whatever problem, she runs to us 'the married relationship committed non independent' friends and family members to bail her out.
My married friends and I got together and told her to get a husband. We will not allow her to take advantage of our husbands ever again. We work hard for the independence and family unity of our families and marriages, and we would not have it any other way. The only independence this woman has is the arrogance of taking advantage of our good hearts. Go rent yourself a husband....

when i have me...and my female friends  we must *really* be independent because we never call someone's husband over to do things for us. if i needed a plumber...i'd call kristen. if i needed a car repair...i'd call pamela. if i needed to move something heavy and couldn't do it by myself :eyes:...i'd call kristen and pamela. if one of my friends needs something assembled or help with a stereo system or computer...they call me. we pretty much have everything covered in our circle of friends...from nursing to construction :D

I feel sorry for your husband. And if he's fooling around with this woman (as I suspect), it serves you right for being so OBTUSE. If this turns into a fight for your husband, she'll win, believe it. Because she is, in your words, "traveled, worldly, stylish, sex goddess, etc." I think a man would find this type of woman TONS more interesting than a pack of jealous witches. Instead of worrying about what she's up to, worry about what you're up to - do you really want to be the kind of woman who has nothing better to contribute on a political message board than this STUPID topic?
Go rent yourself a husband...why should she? She's got yours, and you make it so easy.

15. LOL. I have an observation... |
|
Because I work with and know a great many strong, empowered women married or not, but there is one thing I've noticed:
When it is pouring down rain, it is ALWAYS the husband who is told to go get the car for the wife...no matter how much of a feminist she is, she NEVER offers to get the car for the husband. Further, if in a group with single women, married women and married men and single men, the same still holds: ALL the women expect the men to go out in the driving rain to get the car.
that always cracks me up. I usually try to convince the most feminist member to go get the car, and I get a dirty look for doing so.
Don't get me wrong, I consider myself a feminist male, I just find that traditional gender roles are dusted off and used in those situations, even if the people normally eschew traditional roles.
On the other hand, to your original post, I have often been the "borrowed" husband, by single neighbors in apt. buildings. It doesn't bother me that much as long as it isn't frequently abused.
I remember one night in Tucson, at 3 am the single woman neighbor called me and woke me to come over and kill a really BIG spider. I walked over barefoot and nearly stepped on it as I walked in. ONLY, it wasn't a spider, it was a SCORPION!!!! I ended up spraying it with spray starch (the only aerosol she had handy) and smashing it with one of her shoes.
LOL.

good point.
it was an observation, though, rather than a complaint. Pointing out how gender roles of a traditional nature are (in my experience) reverted to when it serves a purpose. it seemed appropriate tangentially to the discussion.
but hey! Did not mean to offend anyone, nor was my post worded offensively, as far as I can tell by rereading it.

When my husband moved into my house, I began parking my car outside so he could park his in my garage, so he wouldn't have to scrape it in the winter.
That being said,
1. If your husband allows himself to be used, it's his fault. Nobody else's. He's an adult, he's responsible for his own actions.
2. Telling a woman they ought to get married so they have someone to do chores is offensive to both males and females. It's hard to find a way to be so fair to both genders while being sexist, so kudos on that.
3. This is just a thought, but perhaps if she needs her things moved, a suggestion to hire a professional mover is more appropriate than a suggestion to make a lifelong commitment to love, honor and cherish someone.

16. It is your decision to associate with her |
|
Many people come to their friends if they have things that they need help with. If you don't want this type of relationship with her, tell her. As for the husband aspect, men might be more help to her for moving heavy furniture. If she doesn't know a lot of other men or is afriad that asking a single male friend might send him the wrong message, it might be understandable that she would ask your husband or friend's husbands. Not so long ago, people used to have a support system that extended beyond their nuclear family. This included extended family and friends and their families. It seems that you two have different sets of values. She wants an extended support system, but to be independent of a husband or nuclear family. You want to be independent of an extended support system as an indepedent nuclear family. I don't know either of you personally, but I think that you misunderstand each other.

A difference between a support system and a dependence system.
It's normal for friends to lend each other a hand now and then. It's not natural for one "friend" to be constantly leeching off favors.

I'm a guy and I don't fall for that stuff unless I'm getting something in return (he he), but there are lots of dumb guys and girls out there who will do things for 'the popular people'.
Think about it - it's popular girl mentality - just like the cheerleader who used to have the geeks do her homework in highschool.
And then there are shows like Sex & the City which encourage this behavior.
Eh. As long as one is smart it's easy to avoid being taken.

105. Thank you. The only women I know who come close to "hating" men... |
|
are straight women who have been abused by them in one way or another. For me, I can take them or leave them, so I make friends with the men I like (and love), and I leave the rest. I certainly don't hate "men"... though many individuals, men and women, irritate the crap outta me.
I probably do come close to hatred of "some" men, but if I hate them, I hate them as individuals, not as men. They would likely be the same men that most men here would hate as well.
I suppose the image of lesbians as "man-haters" must have come from men who just couldn't stand the thought that a woman wouldn't want to be with a man. Another way to diminish and control.

36. Your husbands could say NO, first thing. |
|
Also, you seem to be assuming a lot. Just because someone is single doesn't mean they hate men.
It doesn't make them less independent to ask a man to do heavy lifting--it makes them smart, unless some of your circle of friends is brawny enough to lift things.
They can't lift things by themselves so they need to get a husband? Are you serious?
When your friend has a problem, she runs to her *friends*. Like anyone else. Except it doesn't really sound like you are her friend.

What a stupid thread, I am sorry. Sounds like you have a personal problem with your friend and you should not be making blanket ignorant statements about all independent women.
Oh...and just because a woman is independent does not mean she hates men...quite the contrary.

and take her husband back.

I'm shocked, I tell you, shocked! And that a supposedly independent woman would ask a MAN to lift something heavier than she can lift herself... ridiculous. If you can't move a sofa yourself, you're not independent, and really ought to get yourself a man.

Enough. Broad sterotypical assumptions in an original post are often inflammatory, although they may be unintentional. This seems to have happened here.
Threads of a personal nature are better posted in one of our other forums - the Lounge or one of the issue specific forums.
Thanks for your consideration.
