The mother of a woman fatally shot by police early Monday says she can't make sense of what happened.
Mary Dolan says her daughter, Bridget Dolan, was a single mother who was in between jobs but seemed to be moving forward. Bridget Dolan, 26, lived with her mother and 7-year-old son in Mary Dolan's Pearland mobile home.
Police say the younger Dolan and another unidentified woman, who is being sought by police, were suspected of robbing a League City convenience store just after midnight Sunday. The pair then led police on a chase from League City into Houston, authorities said. After running to an apartment complex, Dolan was shot several times when, police said, she refused to drop her weapon and pointed it at police officers. Police chased pair.
Corner Spot store owner Jim Burhani said two women stole four 18-packs of Bud Light, worth about $60. He said the clerk on duty at the time told him the women did not point a gun at them but gestured that they were armed.
A League City Police Department patrol car later spotted the suspects' dark-colored Dodge pickup and tried to pull it over, but the driver sped off. During the ensuing chase, the truck stopped in a wooded area in Webster, where the passenger ran away, police said.
Bridget Dolan ended up at an apartment complex in the 600 block of Barringer. Houston Police Department officer K.W. Rogers and League City police Sgt. P.R. Odin fired at Dolan, who was shot several times. She died at Ben Taub General Hospital.
