1. No, just bad 1970's era design |
|
The shuttle reminds me of MS Windows. Very complex and very buggy. It should have been replaced after Challenger.

Very apt statement. We need a nice linux type shuttle. Ask Burt Rutan to whip one up!

I assume you mean foreign spies? I was reading the other day that a lot of people work even indirectly for foreign services, just passing along tidbits to 'freinds' and such. Apparently, according to the article, China is a big one for trying to get technical information.

3. Actually, I Meant Sabotage |
|
Fixed. Espionage, of that there's no doubt. Sabotage, that's another matter. I certainly haven't seen any direct evidence, just wondering other's thoughts.

The space program is pretty much universally supported by both the right and the left. Even Alan Keyes thinks it's a good idea to continue the space program.
These things are old. There is probably a better design out there but it would take time and money to make it happen.

In the sense that the bureaucracy is so bloated and wasteful it's sabotaging the U.S. space program indirectly.

7. Remember, NASA is part of our government, this may all be a |
|
bif production number to get people saying "how can you even think about Karl Rove when our astronauts are in danger?" Hate to say it, but I believe nothing I hear from the government anymore.

8. No. There's politics at NASA. |
|
People concerned about their ass, or about building their little kingdoms, rather than about doing their jobs done right.
I know people who work there. Good, honest, focused people. And they all complain about the elements in the organization that GET IN THE WAY of them doing their jobs.

Just like corporate America.

14. Just a lot of pressure to meet deadlines |
|
who's going to tell the boss to cancel a multi-million dollar event, knowing the PR implications, based on a hunch that something "might" go wrong?
It's like a wedding, even if you start to think "uh ... I don't know if I should marry this guy afterall" once the reservations and band and dress is all paid for and people have given you the gifts, backing out is considered unacceptable. It's not like cancelling plans to eat a bowl of cereal because the milk went bad.
