1. yes
because as a republican and Bush appointee, he cares more about honesty than party loyalty.

3. Unlike McCain
who, in the name of party loyalty, carries water for the thugs that smeared the shit out of him in 2000.

4. Something sadly lacking in most politicians these days
But I think I have seen elsewhere on DU that Fitz registers as an independant. I am not sure calling him an honset Republican is accurate. Except the honest part. He clearly is an honorable man who actively thirsts for justice in an unjust system. That I can respect, whatever his party affiliation. Some in our party could take a cue.

5. The Smear campaign against Fitzgerald.....
will be in direct proportion to how much of a threat he poses to BushCo.

So let's hope they get real nasty!

Then we'll know he truly has the goods on these bastards.

11. Fitzgerald
Actually it means illegitimate (bastard) son of a brave spear/warrior.

I hope he helps us. More specifically I hope he indicts and obtains convictions on those that are guilty. (Whom in my heart of hearts I believe to be the bulk of the Bush Administration.)

But, we delude ourselves if we rely on one person. He probably needs political support from us to maintain his independence.

Looking to any one person including Fitzgerald is putting all ones eggs in ones basket which, among other strategic problems, can put too much strain on the basket.

7. I think he's already shown he's doing everything he can to attain
justice in this case. He sure doesn't play a party line on either side!

I feel confident that he will obtain inditments (yes plural!). Now, if the charges can be turned into convictions, that's another question. That's a much more difficult task.

9. He won't bring indictments unless the case is super strong
That's the way he works.

8. The Constitution Is Our Savior
It's people like Fitzgerald who uphold it and we support him.

This will soon boil down to another test on the seperation of powers, abuse of those powers, obstruction of justice, conspriacy and other crimes. Fitzgerald, while a Repugnican, is sworn to uphold the laws and the Constitution and he's shown a history to do exactly that.

He's working no different that the hundreds of local Prosecutors who are responsible for putting the rule of law above personal or partisan feelings. I served on a Federal jury and had the chance to see the local office (Fitzgerald was running it at the time) in action...and it's a no-nonsense group of the sharpest laywers. For them, the hunt is the criminal and they don't look at the D or R on them.

The wheels of justice move slowly here and this isn't a bad thing. It took him years to get George Ryan and an elaborate cover-up and patronage system not unlike the labrynth he has to navigate here. Time and pressure will create more cracks and soon the leak that started this scandal will become a torrent.

Stay tuned, Mr. Fitzgerald won't be a savior, but he'll be one hell of an advocate for the rule of law.

10. I don't believe in saviors coming from the government. I don't believe
in so and so is a god or goddess on talk show radio. What I do believe in is that the power to take back our government from the Republican/corporate cabal comes from not falling in love with any
particular icon or personality and look on them to provide THE answers.
That's a recipe for disaster and another round of disappointment and disillusionment. I certainly hope Mr. Fitzgerald is a dedicated prosecutor who has some integrity and will pursue this case until its conclusion without regard for personal repercussions. But everytime a single individual or group gets singled out as the savior all it does is provide a convenient target for the right wing media character assassins. IMHO we should be confident in our ideals and promote them so politicians are accepting them, not looking for politicians who happen to sound like they are saying the right thing.

14. I think you're wrong on this one. I don't know if he's GOP or not,
but this GJ is supposed to be done in Oct. and his case against a Rethug goes to trial IN OCT! Try to accept that fact that some people, especially prosecutors, just want justice, no matter who their target is.
