3. I hate trade deals too but at some point you have to ask yourself -
Edited on Wed Jul-27-05 10:34 PM by applegrove
do we really want to live in a world where the "South" still is mired in economic collapse while the West bounces out rich people? And our middle class would be considered extremely rich by any stretch of the poverty that does exist in the world. I mean - there is no other way to get the engines of all world going. Every single development economist agrees. Every single intellectual focussing on the world's poor agree. I hold my nose and hope that the coop movement and the fair trade movements do well.

We have the internet. No reason why corporations should be the only model of international trade. Because they are not.

12. Well like the USA - Mexico has a little 'distribution of wealth problem'.
In fact they are just about equal in the list of countries with South American style distribution of wealth while being 'democracies'. Russia is right with them.

So the distribution of wealth needs to be fixed in all three places.

11. Wages in Mexico went DOWN under NAFTA...
and with CAFTA, it's more of the same. It's about cheap labor, nothing else.

Edited on Wed Jul-27-05 10:40 PM by applegrove
the price of goods are going down too.

The only wages that are not going down are those of CEOs.

10. Trade is not nearly as compelling as threads about video games.
Ever notice how many low count posters heavily participated in those threads?

mainly the southern worker, but now they will have no jobs. Oh well, maybe the south can concentrate on that all important issue of Gays again in the next election.
