DU Rules of Thumbs
In this thread concerning the widely debunked Qu'ran 'Eagle' reference that has been propagated through RW emailers, I responded:

"General Rule of Thumb: Anything in a right-wing email is not true. Or at least HIGHLY questionable or true, but presented out of context or misrepresented."

Bill McBlueState responded:

"That's a good rule! There should be a Bill Maher-style list of DU rules."

I am starting this thread for DUers to add their DU Rule of Thumb - guidelines on which you can pretty much depend. Feel free to add yours.

7. It's easy to tell the difference between
typos and words that are spelled wrong.

My favorite freeper misspellings are
whinning instead of whining
and
loose instead of lose

5. Rule Number 409: You cannot believe everything you read. Period.
Make up your own damn mind. Do your own damn research. Find your own damn facts! Exclamation point.

9. When something seems worse than you could possibly imagine,
ask yourself this:

What do I see that I don't want to see?
What do I know that I don't want to know?
(from Starhawk: Truth or Dare)

In other words, learn to listen to and trust your gut.
