80. You can see his finger's knuckles on the left of his hand.
Look at the shape of the hand. It's too small for it to be his middle finger. The shape is perfectly telling that it's his thumb if you look at the shape of your hand when you give a thumbs up.

7. That is definitely
the middle finger. Freeze frame it and look. It's way too long for a thumb, you see the the knuckles on the back of the hand on either side. No doubt about it-he's giving us the bird.

68. The video of that victory salute paints a fuller picture
http://www.christiangallery.com/BushMovie.htm

He's not only a victorious finger wielding warrior... he's also a snickering bobble head.

But this has to be the ultimate victory salute.

"Fuck you, I'm the President of the United States of America".

was his pointer finger and he was saying, "I'm Number One..."? I don't think it was his thumb -- too straight. (With the Windows Media Player, you can put the cursor on the button under the photo. Then slide the movie clip picture by picture until you get a freeze frame. It does look like knuckles on both sides.)

So I guess I agree with the other people as well as Bonhomme Richard up this thread.

His hand would be bigger if it was his middle finger.

Turn your hand sideways and give the thumbs-up...it's the perfect shape of his hand.

It's his thumb.

81. The curvature of the hand clearly shows that it's the back of the hand
Moreover, the knuckles are clearly turned toward the ceiling, and the "thumb" is clearly coming out from the other side, away from the photographer. There is NO way that this is a "thumbs-up". Considering also that the "thumb" gets "brighter" as he moves it vis-a-vis the lighting while the rest of the hand doesn't, suggests that he is holding one of those gag pens.

61. This thread has ruined my day!
I've spent the last half-hour (not really that long) trying to make my hand raise my middle finger without sticking up the other two. I did it, but it was tough.

But in the end, Bush has told America to fuck off so many times, how can I doubt one more example? So that all said, I watched the clip and do think it was the middle finger again. The way he just flashed it so quickly -- it fit with the gesture.

74. In some ways this war of vindictiveness might be what the POS wants
I retrospect I would think a war of mud slinging is not very productive and only will enhance the people with the loudest megaphone. IMO the Gesture shows something though. How much of a true born again Christian the guy actually is (He is that fraud we knew him to be). He never had the will of the people at heart and is really now is starting to prove it wholesale. He is also starting to look at reporters as enemies and that is a good thing. If he gets isolated enough he might just uncork real good.

Whatever digit it is, it's on the left side of his right hand.

We know he's a prick and we already have a pic of him giving the bird. It just makes us look silly to start sending this out to everybody only to have it shot down.

48. That's a weird thumb, to have a knuckle to the left of it
It's his middle finger. If you are 'double-jointed', this would be very doable. I can almost do it with my left hand.

I know of two other instances in which * has given the fingr. One was when he thought cameras weren't rolling; another was during the 2004 campaign when he was on a bus, I think. In other words, he's done this before. His Vice told someone to "go fuck yuourself".

To him, this is acceptable behavior. On balance, I'll believe it's his middle finger until I get to see a higher resolution picture.

58. Perhaps YOU should try to mimic it with your thumb. It can't be done.
Edited on Thu Jul-28-05 10:28 AM by dicksteele
It's NOT possible.
Not unless his thumb is attached where his middle finger should be.

I can, however, EASILY recreate that gesture with my left hand.
And bear in mind that the photo DOES show the first bits of his other 3 fingers, just at a shallow angle.

I do appreciate the fine point you are making about
being careful not to jump on things too quickly.
However, in this case, it's pretty clear that we are correct.

B*sh flipped the bird. End of story.

69. Not necessarily so, that you would see the other fingers.
For one thing, his arm isn't straight up and down, is it? That would account for not seeing the other partial fingers.

Also, maybe I have flexible fingers, but I can give a straight-up bird like what's shown here.

Maybe Scotty can tell us at the next press conference :7

Just watched it frame by frame.

As he puts his arm down by his side, his hand turns and the "digit" is still extended. It's pointed towards his body. Only a thumb can do that.

Thumb or finger: Bush is still a p.o.s.

46. hannity lied. go figure. not that any moral driven republican
would own and demand an apology of their leader. even when he flips off the public, on camera with pictures. talks about hannity's morality too. and any republican that tries to defend and excuse.

part of morality is the tough part of calling friend, not only foe, on inappropriate behavior.

no, the video and picture quite clearly shows a middle finger to us, the american people

but then i am not fooled by the man. i watched a 1988 video of bush at the repug convention. when asked by a reporter......

what do you and your father talk about when you dont talk politics

his reply

pussy

a wife, two daughters and the man gives an answer like that. being woman, a daughter and a wife myself, i am disgusted. you dont need to prove to me bush's christian values.

Because they (and I along with them) disagree with your opinion of what happened on a video? This is ridiculous... you (and DU) are better than that.

If somebody came out and said.. "You know.. I've been thinking... maybe Bush isn't all that bad?" Now THAT would justify labelling them as a koolaid drinker.

It's OK to discuss this back and forth and give evidence for both sides. Don't start saying I or anybody else is a freep just because we're seeing something different.

His arm and wrist would have to be at a 90 degree angle to give a thumbs up like that. The picture clearly shows that his wrist is straight up and down.

Can't say it's not an index finger for certain, but it's definitely not a thumb.

It means bush uses the hold down your fingers method with his thumb imo.
Holding down the rest of the fingers with the thumg as the middle finger thrusts up instead of the easier method where the fingers are bent but up.

50. like I said above,
I think it may require being "double jointed" to pull it off. Does anyone know if that describes *'s hand's "flexibility"?

49. No one has a thumb that long.. it was the middle finger.
And... the funniest thing is how the reporter suddenly stumbles on his words when Bush does it... if you watch and listen, it takes the reporter by surprise. Bush has a history of that behavior, and a filthy hateful mouth.. he's SUCH a good little Christian boy.

My favorite inanity during the election was when someone mentioned that Bush used the word "God" in slang, but not swearing. I remember some woman flipping out on a forum that Bush would NEVER use the word "GOD" casually in a sentence, because he was such a good, clean, Christian, man.

Rove may be looking at a frog march out of the White HOuse, but the chinless wonder is STILL a genius. How else do you explain his marketing of that insane toad as some Godly, brave, wise, man??? It defies logic.

52. He's clearly flipping the bird. the way he raises his arm gives it away
he does not turn his arm so his thumb points up.

have you ever noticed how the chimp pres. walks?? he walks with the back of his hands facing forward and his elbows bent like a friggin' hick! most humans walk with the tops of their hands facing to the sides.

he rose his hand up without turning his arm, it's very clear in the video.

President of the United States of America
Leader of the Free World
Born-Again Christian

And Republicans say Clinton sullied the office...

57. It looks like a "thumbs up" sign to me.
Edited on Thu Jul-28-05 10:24 AM by Stirk
Go frame-by-frame as he lowers his arm. The digit moves to the side like a thumb.

I mean c'mon- Bush is stupid, but is he *that* stupid?

77. Does it matter what it really is, or what it looks like?
Upon closer inspection, it looks like a back view of his lame-ass thumbs up signs. Irregardless of whether it's a thumb, a pen or a bird, the fact that it looks like one and keeps getting aired over and over tickles me to no end.

78. For the records, I saw this live and it's his thumb.
He was asked by a reporter something about did he think he would get CAFTA passed. He then awkwardly and suddenly thrust a thumbs-up into the air. It was a really pitiful way for a President to act, but it was definitely a positive response to the question.

Now, can we please get back to the treason and high-crimes issue, the ruining of our economy, the election fraud, or the illegal war?

82. what is real?
Edited on Fri Jul-29-05 10:29 PM by PowerToThePeople

or

this most recent pic of his "finger" seems to be mispercepted. The "finger" imo is just some of the metal or gold paint on the peace of furniture in the background. He seems to be holding up his fist, but the background geometry kinda looks like a finger. It is not located on his hand where the middle finger wound actually be.

The only reason I even say this is because we don't want to look like a bunch of idiots. Freepers will and do look for anything to get us on. I for one, will not "walk into" it.

edit- just saw the "leno" vid. definately a finger. But, which one?
