Please put this picture on the DU home page!
Edited on Thu Jul-28-05 10:21 AM by Stephanie

Put it on the front page of every newspaper, air the video on every network. THIS is your "President."

What would have happened if Howard Dean did this?

2. No, you're right. It's his thumb.
How great it would be if it was his finger.

I cannot believe I'm arguing this with people. LOL

It's a thumb. Watch the whole video. Read my other "Am I missing Something" post.

Oh shit, I just thought of something. I have to go change the title fo my original post. Be right back.

17. No, it's pretty obvious it's his thumb.
PhotoShop or no PhotoShop. Please, watch the video. The way he raises his arm and his position relative to the camera makes it seem FOR A MOMENT that it is his middle finger. However, it's not.

3. This comment: "I hate GW just as much as the next dude..."
occurs from time to time around here and never fails to make me wonder. It's one of those "tells" - like in poker.

Sometimes if you don't make it clear, you'll get flamed and accused of being a freeper. But I guess you can't win either way!

Check some of my other posts. You'll know I'm in your camp. You just never know with this crowd. You make one post against the grain and there's blood in the water. I'm not a freeper, I assure you. I'm just in favor of saving my own credibility and not wasting it on crap like this. It's a thumb.

27. I hate B*sh as much as the next guy, too. But you are wrong.
If you think that's a thumb, then exactly WHERE
have you seen human hands
that bend and stretch that way?
Or do you believe his thumb is really 7 inches long?

Try it yourself: Make your hand and wrist assume that pose.
SEE? It can't be done. Just not possible.

The ONLY way that is a THUMB is if
it's someone else's thumb
and B*sh is holding it between his knuckles.

32. Sorry, I disagree.
And I'm not an alien. My hands work just like yours. And when I make a thumbs up, my fingers curl around and under on the other side of my hand. Since the video is blurry, you can't see the individual digits curled under. But when I squint and look at my thumbs up sign, it's the same exact gesture.

So, should I call myself an apologist now or wait for you to accuse me of it in a couple minutes?

And as far as your snarky inference that I was going to...
Well, I'll just say that it was misguided, and leave it at that.

12. Not this time.
I agree, I think it's his thumb. Watching the video, he looks up just slightly before flashing it. Like he's giving the thumbs up to someone he just saw. Hold your thumb up like Clinton used to do during speeches. Your index finger wraps around and appears on the other side of the thumb, giving the illusion from that angle and that lighting that it's his middle finger.

This is what I posted before.

I've looked at that picture about a thousand times now. It's not his middle finger. It's his thumb.

First, you can see where his wrist runs up to his tip of his thumb.

Second, he would have a freakishly short middle finger. That is normally the longest finger on your hand.

Third, try doing it. Your hand and arm have to be bent at a much more severe angle. WHen you twist your wrist to make each respective gesture, you can tell that the position of his arm and wrist in this photo are of his thumb.

Fourth, he would also have one of the narrowest palms in the world. Make a thumbs up. See how narrow your palm looks. Now turn it out and make the other gesture. Your palm widens as you turn your hand.

It's his fricken thumb. If I'm a DINO for thinking that than so be it.

4. Please don't put the thumb on the homepage.
It's all out there in the media anyway as an alleged middle finger.

No need to tarnish DU's homepage with this non-item.

His supporters eat that shit up anyway. They think it shows his "toughness." ("Yeah, fuck the liberal media!")

Remember "There's Adam Clymer, major league asshole for the New York Times?"

Remember Cheney's Senate floor curse to Leahy, "Go Fuck Yourself?"

This stuff doesn't bother the allegedly pious.

It's plain as day in the picture - that's not his thumb. Did they call a presser to announce it was really his thumb?

13. Looks to me...
from that framegrab that we *could* be mistaking his thumb for his index finger, which would make the extended finger his index finger, as in "up" or "number 1" or "check out this snot blossom"...

28. Here's the frame-by-frame
It's not a thumb. And that's not a middle finger. It's a pen. He's pumping his fist in the air as a sign of victory. But he's got a pen between his fingers. Note the tiny little nob on the right side of the thing that is sticking up -- that's the little clip on every pen that you use to clip it to your pocket protector.
