Historic Stem Cell Legislation Never Sees Light of Day in Senate
Historic Stem Cell Legislation Never Sees Light of Day in Senate; Patient Groups Express Disappointment in Senate Maneuvers to Stonewall Bill
7/28/2005
To: National Desk

WASHINGTON, July 28 U.S. Newswire -- Today, the Coalition for the Advancement of Medical Research (CAMR), comprised of over 95 nationally-recognized patient groups, scientific societies and academic research institutions, expressed its disappointment that legislation to expand federal support for embryonic stem cell research was not brought to a vote in the Senate prior to Congressional recess, despite promises from Senate leadership to do so. ...

This morning, Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist (R-Tenn.) objected to a motion that H.R. 810 be brought to the floor. ...

Any chance the American Medical Association can revoke Senator Frist's medical license for violating the principle tenets of the Hippocratic Oath? ...

--------------------------------------------------------------------
VIOLATIONS BY SENATOR BILL FRIST (MD?):
Hippocratic Oath -- Modern Version

*VIOLATION -*I swear to fulfill, to the best of my ability and judgment, this covenant:

*VIOLATION -*I will respect the hard-won scientific gains of those physicians in whose steps I walk, and gladly share such knowledge as is mine with those who are to follow.

*VIOLATION -*I will apply, for the benefit of the sick, all measures which are required, avoiding those twin traps of overtreatment and therapeutic nihilism.

*VIOLATION -*I will not be ashamed to say "I know not," nor will I fail to call in my colleagues when the skills of another are needed for a patient's recovery.

Above all, ...

*VIOLATION -*I must not play at God.

*VIOLATION -*I will remember that I do not treat a fever chart, a cancerous growth, but a sick human being, whose illness may affect the person's family and economic stability. My responsibility includes these related problems, if I am to care adequately for the sick. <

*VIOLATION -*I will remember that I remain a member of society, with special obligations to all my fellow human beings, those sound of mind and body as well as the infirm.

*VIOLATION -*If I do not violate this oath, may I enjoy life and art, respected while I live and remembered with affection thereafter. May I always act so as to preserve the finest traditions of my calling and may I long experience the joy of healing those who seek my help.

Written in 1964 by Louis Lasagna, Academic Dean of the School of Medicine at Tufts University, and used in many medical schools today.

It seems more likely that Bill Frist took the Hippocritic Oath instead....

3. And yet another day
I live with parkinson's disease. Another day i can fall at a moments notice and break my neck. Another day of muscle cramps and freezes and of people looking at me like like am the freak of the week. Another day of painful hand tremors and spilling food over myself. Another day of humilation and needing potty help. Another day of horrible heart burning medication. And another day of living in fear of ssdi being swept away. And another day of no sleep because my legs run marathons at night beyond my control. And another day of job rejection. Thank you very much George W and all you anti stem cell people from the bottom of my heart.

4. I am so sorry you are living thru this insult on top of injury.
Words fail me, but I wanted to acknowledge that I heard you.

There is no explanation in the entire world that would excuse what is happening in Washington DC, and I'm very, very ashamed of my "government".

We must prevail against these monsters blind to human suffering.
