Bush is done. I know it now.
My belief doesn't arise because of the Fitzgerald investigation. Nor because of DSM, nor the bad poll numbers, although each of these things forms an essential part of the backdrop.

No, I know Bush is done because of the finger thing. Or, to be more precise, because of the press coverage of the finger thing. That finger (or thumb or pen or severed Clenis, but it sure looks like a middle finger) picture is the equivalent of that infamous video clip of Poppy puking at the Japanese state dinner. The press kept showing it over and over and over, just like they later did with the Dean Scream. When they do that to you, you're done. I knew Poppy was toast when the press wouldn't let up on the puke scene. Shortly thereafter they started hitting with other things like Clueless Poppy Meets the Price Scanner, but the Puke Scene was the defining moment. Somebody had decided to pull the plug on Poppy, and the press did the job on him.

Now it's Junior's turn. It begins with the finger.

Just watch.

2. You could be right. But even so, it won't help us as far as policy making.
We got CAFTA, we're gonna get a horrendous energy bill, and there is so much more they want to shred.

** is king. King's can give you the finger if they want, and there's not a thing you can do about it.

13. No, it probly won't help much with our greater travails.
On the other hand, it may be a start. Maybe there is a revolution going on in Bilderberg circles, and some other faction is rising to wrest control of the voting machines from Bushco to install la regime neuf. Maybe someone has decided that species survival would be a nice idea.

This is the kind of simple, visual moment even the dimmest mouth-breather can grasp. There'll probably be a few yobs who think B*sh is being cool for doing that, but it'll be interesting to hear what the breathless "whatever will be tell the children?" crowd have to say about their hero's utter lack of class.

personally I think it should have been a central theme to campaign videos...

<cut to Bush giving the finger>

"Americans are concerned about education."

<cut to Bush giving the finger>

"Americans are concerned with finding Osama"

<cut to Bush giving the finger>

46. Apparently not, though. White House issued a statement, it's his thumb.
It's on another thread of DU. I'm sure there's a link out there somewhere.

If the WH says it's a thumb, there's no damn way on earth that was his thumb. Therefore, it's his finger.

Too bad the WH didn't read DU this morning. They would have had an out. Problem is, if no one saw a pen in bush's right hand before he gave the frat boy salute, then they're still painted into a corner.

If that's what it was, his anatomy is unusual. That said, if he's being mispotrayed, I'm not about to start feeling sorry for him considering the mischaracterizations that he and his cabal are responsible for. What is so amusing is that the White House can't even clear up something so trivial without raising doubts.

31. It wasn't Poppy getting sick.
It was using the clip over and over that was significant. The scene was merely a convenient tool for a press that had been given the go-ahead to bring him down. Absent this film clip, they would have found something else.

Had Reagan done the same thing, there would have been a brief talking-head announcement that St. Ronald fell ill at a state function, and no film clip would have been shown.

seriously--if the press has the courage all of a sudden to put this kind of stuff out, it bodes ill for this criminal crew. First, yup-no "third term" via emergency suspension of the Constitution. Second, maybe there will be real coverage when the Plame case goes into open court this fall. Third, maybe (beginning in Ohio?) there could be an investigation of the '04 election theft in time for '06 to be more fair (and permitting a Dem sweep like the Pugs did in '94). Then...who knows? Impeachment?

Remember, this White House is pretty unforgiving of press "misbehavior", so if the press starts down this trail they'd better be prepared to finish it. Half-measures are suicidal in this playpen.

I think it's pretty obviously a thumb, so I was blown away that any media picked up the "story" at all. Even if it had been an obvious fliping of the bird, I would've been surprised at such media coverage.

Seems like everything just did a 180 about the time of the Rove revelations. It's very interesting- this sort of coverage would've been unthinkable just 2 years ago.

corporate news..I had no idea they were playing it over and over.

I just knew we were talking about it a lot on here, and to me it was symbolic of bush Flipping Off the public no matter what digit or apparatus he was extending.

They're only done when THEY SAY they are done....as the American idiots refuse to confront the truth, our 'leaders' are complicit or cowards.

67. Time to dig up that other picture of Jr. giving the finger (or is that one
I've seen posted around DU a photoshopped one?). That one's a lot clearer, and you know if a Dem had given the finger or just appeared to, the Repubes would've dug up any other finger photos they could find. Let's give the press some more fingers. Got to find that one and send it to Olbermann.

68. Yes, you might be right. It might signal a change in how the press is now
willing to show him in a bad light, and openly mock him. Could be a signal of even bigger changes.

70. I think you might be right.
As you say, it doesn't matter now WHAT it is he's holding up. It's framed, baby. It's a dismissive, arrogant gesture made by a little pissant to a reporter trying to ask a question.

They could produce a legion of eye witnesses to say it's something else, but in the public mind, it's the bird.
