All basic human goals that would unite people towards defeating a common neocon enemy, are listed in the Declaration of Independence.
So I would say, we can unite with the goal of renewing and implementing the Declaration of Independence. Everyone can unite around that, can't they???

I guess I did not take your "3 items" so literally...I'm sorry.
What I meant is that if you compare the Declaration to the current policies of the Bush Junta, you see the goals come clearly, and you can unite people on all fronts of attack, such as Right to Choice, undoing the Patriot Act, withdrawing from Iraq, maintaining Social Security, etc. all based on the principles contained in the Declaration.
This takes away all the attacks of "partisanship", un-American, and brings to light those famous "American Values" that are right now being trampled in the name of Freedom, and aims at restoring them. Seems to me that the Democrats, not the Neocons hold the keys to these values, and it is a mystery to me why they don't use them.

(not that my knowledge of law and politics is so great) I'd say: 1) Universal Health Care 2) Independence from Oil, even if we have to use Japanese patents to do so (such as subsidizing hybrid cars for example and financing solar energy, etc.) 3) Unconditional withdrawal from all Colonial enterprises such as Iraq, including withdrawing war profiteers such as Halliburton, Bechtel, etc. and making sure the Iraqis have the funds for their own reconstruction.

1) Need for physical security It must be explained why Bush's agenda is destructive to the literal well being of the person and his family (edit: or more to the point, wy our program is better) 2) Need for social security I'm not talking about the program, I'm talking about having people feel like they are going to be accepted, and be safe within society, even when they are old, or crotchety, or a different color, whatever. Its incredibly important to have social programs that take care of disabled for this reason, it moralizes the people and makes them feel safe. Also, Howard Deans call to serve one another, and those traditional good ethics of helping the disadvantaged, and each other, serve this goal. 3)Need for spiritual security The majority of people in this country who are religious, or believe in some kind of higher power, also need a sense of spiritual security, that they are doing the right things in the eyes of that Higher Power. Bush plays on this a lot with abortion, and controls a lot of people because of it. Its important therefore in pursuing goal two to not be afraid to link it to popular spiritual traditions. We should not rally against a leader who quotes Jesus Buddha or mohammed's teaching about serving the poor, we must reconize the need for spiritual security.

Define "physical security". Is it food, clothing, shelter or something else.
You use the phrase, "social security" (which has been distorted beyond any meaning), while describing something completely different. So, what is the phrase or word that describes what you believe to be a common human value?
Spiritual security implies there's a force against spiritual freedom. What is that force?
Hope you don't mind my whiddling ya' down to human causes beyond political and religious rhetoric.

1) Physical Security: Bush explains that his administration is the one which will physically protect Americans from terrorists, who wish Americans physical harm. He explains that the other party is weak flip floppers. Terrorism has been his highlest approval rating for awhile, because Americans above all desire physical safety.
2) Security in society (yeah, 'social security' is a bad term') People want to feel that they are socially accepted, that they will not be narrowed out or isolated. Bush's strategy here is twofold. First he equates his party with partriotism (If you hate repubs you hate america) then creates presses for a state of belligerent patriotism some might call nationalism where the flag loses meaning, but anybody who waves it is a "patriot". Republicans create social acceptance by creating a clear enemy, the american hating liberals, but on the other hand offering almost total inclusion for anybody who waves the flag. Bush offer security in society by choice, you have to wave a flag. Bush then just has to make sure that the flag stands for him alone.
3) spiritual security You asked who the enemy who defies religious freedom is, and I would answer that its anybody who the religious leaders want it to be...But at the same time, that's not totally relevant. People look to religion for answers for moral questions, such as: Is it murder to kill an unborn child? Religious leaders then step to the plate and give answers. Some say it is, and it will send you to hell. Those who believe them will then vote for the candidate against abortion. It has nothing to do with religious freedom, its about trying to stay out of hell/not piss God off.

which, IMHO, would go far in eradicating a substantial number of the problems we face.
1) Abolish corporate personhood and enact sunshine laws with regards to company performance and executive compensation. All shareholders get a vote on board of directors and approval of business decisions.
2) Strict regulation of performance and immediate revocation of corporate charter in event of the demonstration of public harm by public hearings whether it be environmental, fraud, pension looting, lax worker safety, price gouging, negligence, or other malfeasance or illegality.
3) No corporate money in politics. Period. If it's social darwinism for us, so should it be for them. Any whiff of a politician with a conflict of interest or a corporation trying to bribe lobby, they both go.
