Contact: Fred Allingham, 530 751-6795; Web: http://www.hackettforcongress.com

CINCINNATI, July 26 /U.S. Newswire/ -- The Veterans’ Alliance for Security and Democracy Political Action Committee announced its support for the Congressional campaign of Paul Hackett, the Democratic candidate in the August 2, 2005 special election in Ohio’s second congressional district. Hackett, a former U.S. Marine Corps major who served in the Iraq war would, if elected, become the first Iraq war veteran to serve in Congress.

“We support Paul for his intelligence, courage and commitment to public service.” Said Fred Allingham, VETPAC field director. “Despite his disagreement with the Iraq war, he volunteered for activation from the Marine Corps reserve and served a dangerous tour in Iraq. Major Hackett felt that his duty as a professional demanded that he share the burden and the risks of service with his Marine Corps brethren.”

Allingham also cited Hackett’s reputation for independence and his commitment to his family and community. “We need more veterans in Congress who understand the sacrifices being made by our troops in Iraq and will fully fund veterans health care and other benefits that they and all veterans have earned by their service. Paul will honor the American values for which he fought and serve the interests of his community. He will not simply be another clone in Tom DeLay's army.”

37. wrong
it is the most republican district in the state, a dem has not come close to winning this district in over twenty years--usually losing by over 2-1. So, Hackett is not safe. It will take lots of hard work for him to win.

50. Good New Picture of Conyers - They have been discussing this election
on http://www.conyersblog.us/

Alot of good info, including the fact that the NeoCons may not have access to the usual voting fraud techniques.

Conyers has a new article on Coin gate and massive corruption in Ohio politics.
**************

Linda D. Lalley said. "Rather, the suit alleges that Ohio has a long history of serious problems with the way elections are conducted, spanning many administrations and violating fundamental Constitutional rights of Ohioans who are eligible to vote."

The remedy sought is to bring about meaningful reform to Ohio's election process. The suit does not seek a monetary award for any of the plaintiffs.

By filing now, the plaintiffs agree that there is a good chance of reaching a resolution in time to see reforms put in place before the 2006 election. Most of the problems identified in the suit are also outlined in the League's 10-point reform plan."

http://www.lwvohio.org/

Part of this precedent includes using the recent jurisdiction in Arcate, CA and the state of California: If the vote is not verifiable, it is deemed unconstitutional and the people have the right and duty to reject it with absolution.

Also in the referendum, Diebold Election Systems have been rejected for all of their fraudulent activity and having machines that produce 10% error rate is illegal. Machines of this nature out of force, are not acceptable to any voter. This should trumpeted all through Ohio, so the SOS has no chance to backout and must recuse himself immediately or face time in jail.

Its time the people throw these hacks out of office, and demand justice in all jurisdictions including their own!

She is desperately trying to recruit ground forces for her campaign. Meanwhile, Hackett has a ton of volunteers with plenty on the way, so Hackett should have a major get-out-the-vote operation. Meanwhile, Schmidt has people in her own party telling people to stay home and not vote for her.

League of Women voters sue state of Ohio, SOS Blackwell, AG Jim Petro, executive branch

"In a complaint being filed today in federal court in Toledo, the League of Women Voters of Ohio joined the League of Women Voters of Toledo-Lucas County and a dozen individual plaintiffs in suing the governor and the secretary of state for 30 years of dysfunctional election administration. Represented by a team of attorneys led by the Lawyers' Committee for Civil Rights Under Law, the League is claiming a pattern of failed election management, chronic under-funding of county boards of elections and inadequate training for poll workers.

"We simply concluded that a lawsuit is the most effective means of bringing about reform to Ohio's voting process," Co-President Carol Gibson said. "Election problems have surfaced continually, and the legislature has failed to take comprehensive action with its recent election-reform bill, HB 3. We felt that the courts presented us with a last resort for addressing the shortfalls of our election system."

The suit was filed against the office of the secretary of state and governor, not the individuals holding the offices at this time. "The suit does not allege fraud," Co-President Linda D.
