Mistrust
On one level I feel the Dem's barely speak to me,
Gone from the discussion is issues like poverty, the social safety net, workers rights and union empowerment, gone is the discussion about corruption and misuse of power, the machinations of the G-8 and the sick compromises that have taken the soul out of the Democratic party.

Here the Republicans dictate dem policy they are going to vote against a woman's right to choose, they vote so much in lockstep with the right it is almost like they are either brainwashed, scared, politically blackmailed, unaware of the progressive ideals that most rank and file Dem's hold dear,or they are working on an underlying political agenda that is NEITHER left NOR right.

What scares me is we are all caught up with the show but we never looked behind the curtain,.Dem's have voted against us,.against OUR well being..WHY?

There are Dem's saying Ohmigod I agree with a rethuglican.
Why do you think that is..

Could it be another agenda we don't want to see is working through both parties? A kind of very sick communitarian-ism where left and right merge and our rights disappear slowly and we don't even see it go?

How loyal to the working class WAS Clinton really?

Was he all this mr wonderful just because he slapped the rethugs and made them jealous, sending troops to Kosovo, bombing Iraq for TEN years..Now he's so buddy buddy with the people who ruined his presidency..WHY? Forgive and forget or what it a game of good cop bad cop and both parties were the same party all along?

Isn't it funny how certain people even though their message is good have no political chances?

Coincidence or not.

Our country is in deep shit the compromises has made two parties essentially one they don't need to pull out Hitler's tactics if they get US to buy it as if it's OK.

Do you think the people would have accepted piss tests and cameras on every street back in 1965?

Hell No. They more so than Dem's today VALUED their rights and privacy they mistrusted the government enough to QUESTION THEIR LEGITIMACY They were honest with themselves enough to see a power grab, for what it is,and they were involved in politics on the street, they would make a protest get violent if they had to do it,,and the youth threatened the corrupted system itself..
And the system responded they lost steam, and forgot about freedom, when age frightened them into pseudo liberal talk and getting a job, raising kids, they studied politics they lost their soul and forgot what they wanted..they fell when the national guard shot people at kent state, Meanwhile the cia made LSD gave it to hippies so their political and social consciousness turned inward to powerlessness and the"me decades".And Charles Manson made being hippy equated with crazy extremist.

Today we buy corporate made in china hippy/punk fashion and the youth smoke pot and dance and fear.. but they unlike their parents/grandparents they never tasted and do not remember hippy defiance, real freedom .The "rebels" of today are confused, and wait for a leader, consumed by what will the neighbors think, haunted by this fear of poverty and fear of being the outsider ,a radical a liberal,a rebel, for real, instead we get rebels in a costumed way.

Why has the willing rebel spirit that made a nation love itself enough to choose to disobey customs, question authority, question rules, and rulers, enough to hope and plan a different path that the government wanted, who dared take the first steps and revolt against a corrupted system..falter and leave us?

What happened to not playing games with corrupted systems and no more compromise with people who will take away our freedoms and civil rights.

You never know what you got till it's gone.

But when it is gone it is ..gone.

And right now it's going real fast.
Compromise with tyrants and controlling ideologies will not bring our freedom and civil rights back.

1. I think payola is controlling too many people; if they had a
conscience to begin with, it appears that morals and conscience are now secondary to their pocketbooks. Sure does sound republican, now that you mention it... Currents actions and voting aren't felt immediately, but when the shit hits the fan, people will wonder what happened and it'll be too late.

2. Corporatism
Bill Moyers called it the commoditization of democracy. Everyone has an advocate except we the people! The issues truly germane to the discussion are willfully kept from the public discourse.

Fostering a populist uprising (of the peaceful variety, of course) is the road to legislative control. But if we fail to make for meaningful election reform, we will be like the EMT giving CPR an hour too late. The successful resuscitation of democracy is in our hands.

Corney maybe, but that is MHO...

3. "corporate supremacists"...

...is Dobb's new word for them. He used it again today. I think the term has a lot of potential.

4. Why use two words when "fascists" works so well?

5. Because "fascists" is one of those "commie pinko words"

corporate supremacists plays both on their radical nature, grouping them with other "supremacist" groups and also plays to the average joe in his general feelings that white-collars are stuck-up elitists.

6. You are right. But here's a possibly overly optimistic take...
Perhaps the Clintons/other centrist Dems have just figured that shifting right is a way to take back power: to co-opt much of the repub's territory. Once they take back that power -- the presidency, or a house of congress -- they'll have the freedom to move back left again.

Could it be??

Right now, the left is as powerless as it has ever been. More so, because we've even lost the media: they won't even cover massive protests.

I hate the right-shift. But you know what? If it's Jeb Bush or Hillary, I'm voting Hillary. She might be in bed with corporations, but she ain't the devil incarnate.

Clinton was not perfect; I voted Nader in 1996. But my God. Dems are not the same as Republicans.

7. I have to disagree...
Clinton was popular not because he fought for the Bill of Rights, or anything else. An aside I have to give props for the healthcare reform attempt. He allowed welfare 'reform' to go through which removed money from the pockets of people in the system and otherwise allowed us to be screwed.

He was popular because of the rising tide. We felt good about ourselves and more importantly, about our future.

What we are seeing politically is similar to what happened prior to the Civil War ca. 1840s. The demise of the whigs, which led to the new liberal party: Republicans.

Dems and Republicans are now different sides of the same coin. It's time for a new party based on honesty, open government and human rights.

8. That would be fantastic, of course.
But I hear almost no politicians of any sort saying anything credible about honesty, etc. Where will this new party come from? The left, or the center, or somewhere else?

A new party will either have to unite all the various flavors of left, or will have to take people who now vote Republican. That could happen, I suppose, but do you see anyone on the political scene who can get that kind of following?

I'm not a visionary, I admit. This new party will still have to have a stand on the war, and on Roe v. Wade, and then the old lines will form again.

9. It will come from the grass roots.
It will have to come from the grass roots, the current crop of pols are too beholden to corporations. Kinda like the Jesse Ventura phenom.

For a name, I kinda like The Legacy Party. The party whose only guidance is in my sig line: What will be your legacy? Will your children live up to it or live it down.
