Paula Zahn tonight: "Gay teens given the OPPORTUNITY to become straight" |
|
Paula is taking us into a Christian camp where they convert teens. Here promo says it shows that gay teens have the OPPORTUNITY to become straight.
My, she is really hanging her colors these days isn't she?

That's the issue that Bush (well Rove) always brings out when things are going bad for them. :eyes: So things must be getting bad for Bush if the networks are talking about gay kids. They did it to Ann Richards, John McCain, Al Gore, John Kerry.

7. I saw a piece on that christian retreat. First thing that came to mind is |
|
gee, I bet those gay kids are thrilled to finally hook up with a bunch of other gays. Actually, the minister they interviewed was creepy and terrifying, like his face was made of wax. And the thing we thought was hysterical were the rules, no music unless its Christian and no wearing Ralph Lauren or Abacrombie & Finch. Honest. We were laughing so hard.
Paula's werfless.

28. Hiya Bouncy, I'm still here! Take my word for it, |
|
Fundies think the parents of gay kids "allow" them to become gay. My son is 11, I'm pretty sure he's gay. Might be the Barbies, might be the fact that he stays up late making his bed sheets into dresses, might be the fact that all his friends are girls, who knows. But I have been told on more than one occasion, by people who eavesdrop, that I should make him stop, I should "knock some sense into him". My response? "As a parent it's my job to give the kid one place on earth where he can come and be himself, a home where he is loved for who he is, where he doesn't have to fear ignorant, compassionless, stupid people like yourself." That usually shuts them up.

31. I love this part of what you said: |
|
"As a parent it's my job to give the kid one place on earth where he can come and be himself, a home where he is loved for who he is..."
Amen and amen some more. I have a daughter and I want our home to be the one place in the world, even if there's only ONE place, where she feels safe and loved and free to be herself. You sound like a fantastic dad.

23. The opportunity to become straight? How do they provide that? |
|
:wtf:
Do they encourage (strictly heterosexual) orgies? Lock a male and female in a room and not let them come out until they've had sex?

30. Are you serious?!?! I'm going to have to check this out... |
|
This reminds me of something my former principal did earlier this year. During the morning announcements he included one that read something to the effect of, "for anyone opposing alternative lifestyles, an "informational packet is available in the office." Since I tend to ignore the morning announcements, I only caught part of it...but what I heard shocked me. I asked my kids if they heard the announcement. Only one student did so I sent out an email to all staff. I asked if I heard the announcement correctly and if I did, I questioned the legality and morality of distributing homophobic literature from our school's office. Indeed, I had heard the announcement correctly. I learned that the high school secretary and/or principal distributed the literature to any student who requested it. I got a copy. The title was "The Unhappy Truth About Being Gay." The packet contained an article denouncing AIDS research (waste of taxpayer dollars,) a series of anecdotes by supposed "ex-gays" and a "fact-sheet" which compared homosexuality to such evils as pedophilia, bestiality and criminality. I was appalled. In Wisconsin (where I teach) gay youth are protected by stature against discrimination/harassment in public schools. I didn't see how this was not a violation of the rights of our gay students' rights. In addition, since the literature was brought to our school by a church group, I saw possible church/state violations. I also considered possible 14th Amendment violations (would the school allow similar literature with a racist, sexist, etc. slant?) Needless to say, my concerns were ignored by the principal for a couple days, the district administrator never did address my concerns and the Director of Pupil Services was outwardly hostile. She sent me three very hostile emails, one of which she sent to the entire staff. In the end, the ACLU helped with a "strongly worded" letter to the district. You would think administration would know better!
