Are we starting to see the beginning of the end?
Edited on Sun Sep-28-03 09:53 AM by glarius
I have a sad feeling that things are starting to come to a head with regards to the Iraq war fiasco..It looks like almost a domino effect is starting to take place...The daily deaths and wounding of American soldiers, no WMDs, and the latest trip to the United Nations by Bush (still belligerent) looking for help which is not forthcoming....The anti-Iraq war demonstrations have started up again around the world...We had one here in Ottawa yesterday....Not to mention Putin who came for a visit but left without promising help... .I say I feel sad, because even though I've been against the war from the beginning, my heart goes out to all you good American people who will have to bear the cost, (in every sense of that word), of this insane war....I hear daily on American TV, someone say "we have to get other countries to share in the cost" or "we need troops from other countries."....It's not that easy, in my opinion...We other countries demonstrated world-wide against this war and now that it's turned into such a mess I believe most countries will be very reluctant to send soldiers to become sitting duck targets...My country has donated $300 million to help rebuild Iraq (which we could use here in Canada for many domestic projects), that's fine, but I don't want our young soldiers going to Iraq. We also have troops in Afghanistan.....As I'm writing this Stephanopolis is saying "Colin Powell who is in charge of getting help in Iraq" will be on his show....Do they really think all they have to do is ask or should I say demand?.....I don't know how this is all going to end, but it sure is a hell of a mess....

1. Thank you for your post
And I don't think any of the other countries should give us a dime for help in a mess we started. Hopefully, Americans, who normally know nothing and care to no nothing about the rest of the world, will learn a little humility from this horrible experience. Maybe they will realize bigger doesn't mean best and the only way to get through problems is with the help of friends. And we lost a hell of a lot of friends because of Bush.

2. It does have a feeling of coming to a head though and perhaps it will
be ended without many more young lives being lost or maimed....I pray so anyhow.....I haven't a clue how, but it's just a feeling I have or maybe it's just wishful thinking...

3. The bush regime will severely punish all disobedient countries

Several countries have already received orders for their armies to report for duty immediately. Those who defy the regime will be dealt with harshly. The regime does not tolerate rejectionists in the war against anti-American sentiment.

4. Thaks, glarius
It's always comforting to know that despite the Bush regime and all its atrocities both domestic and foreign, there are still people in other countries who don't hate all Americans.

Tarbaby is the word that comes to mind when I think of our involvement -- and Bush's -- in Iraq.

On the one hand it's glorious to see him stuck with something he can't photo-op his way out of. On the other hand, it's agaonizing to know that innocent people are suffering and dying because of it.

7. I really don't think most people in other countries hate Americans
It's your present government we can't stand...Look how President Clinton is still received when he goes abroad. We know who's to blame!..I think most of us just feel a great sadness for the mess Bush and his buddies have gotten you into...I understand your ambiguous feelings..."On the one hand it's glorious to see him stuck with something he can't photo-op his way out of. On the other hand, it's agaonizing to know that innocent people are suffering and dying because of it."....His horrible mistakes are costing your people, but you love to see him foiled.....

5. Here in the U.S.
Many of us realize all too painfully what George Bush has done...and the damage that has been wrought.

We know how much work we have to do. Thank you for your support of us.

8. We've always been good neighbours (until Bush came along)
This is one of the things that has bothered me a lot...I live close to the American border, in southern Ontario and we have great relations with our American neighbours....Even Bush has not spoiled that, so far.....

6. The situation in Iraq will not improve
until a Democrat is in the WH, apologizes to the U.N. (and the rest of the world) while allowing the citizens of Iraq to reap their own rewards as opposed to Halliburton.
