Hubby's view of the "finger"
Shrub probably thinks it's a compliment 'cause everyone does it to him.

1. He probably did this though

From the rear it would look like a middle finger raised.

He's still a jerk though.

It's a thumb.
I thought it was a finger at first since -

1) He's done it before

and

2) The mental suggestion from Jay Leno

but it's a thumb.

Apparently the thumbs up was in response to a question from a reporter on which way CAFTA was gonna go for him.

10. I didn't think he had an opposable thumb.
No evolution, you know.

11. The width of the wrist in the still photo

does look too narrow for it to be the back of the hand facing the camera and does appear more likely to be the hand from the side - which would make it most likely for the thumb to be the protuerance.

3. I have my doubts that it was a thumbs up
I think he's just arrogant enough to flip the bird.

4. I think
it was either the flip or him saying "we're number one."

8. Nope. I don't even see how anyone
with an arm, hand, thumb, and fingers, and suggest this.

6. Haha for your Hubby - But my own view of the finger incident
Edited on Sat Jul-30-05 03:03 PM by aint_no_life_nowhere
is that whether it was a thumb or finger (something that I guess is still being debated here) I think that Bush could probably sodomize an entire Cub Scout Troop live on national television and it wouldn't raise any controversy in the media. Here at DU, there actually was an effort to analyze what he did, blowing up frozen video images to see if it was only his thumb. Not so in the media, where apart from a question at McClellan's press conference, they don't seem to care whether or not he was flipping the bird. I haven't seen the video footage replayed anywhere since the Leno Show. I haven't seen anyone on cable news even debate whether it was a finger or thumb. I haven't seen any talking head even raise a question regarding Bush's mental state, if in fact he gave the finger. If it was Clinton instead of Bush, I'm sure they would be dissecting the videotape as though it were the Zapruder film.

9. Nah, if it was Clinton...
Then it would be the finger, end of story.

Seeing a few frames of the video above, I'm tempted to say that it looks a lot more like a thumb than just the single frame would suggest. In any case it's a sad state of affairs when so many people CAN believe that it's the finger, and I don't mean that to besmirch the people who believe that, but rather to besmirch the character of Bush, because so many people see it as completely in character for him to do such a thing. (Myself included)
