How long does it take to be a "legal resident?" We know that terrorists took years to plan the 9/11 attacks. America's military is becoming foreign fighter mercenaries.

After the US launched the "war on terrorism", US President George W Bush made it easier for foreign-born US residents joining the military to gain full citizenship. Among other aspects, the usual five-year waiting period has been eased by a July 2002 executive order. Petition and fingerprinting fees were waived for service members. Any legal resident who enlists in the military can immediately petition for citizenship, rather than wait the five years required for civilians to start the process.

2. Only if you are a translator or interpreter and know middle east languages
Of course, as the FBI is telling us, neither our military nor our Intel units really need to know what is written or spoken. Intel is really unimportant.

3. Why not? Gangs already do.
Gangs often send members into the armed services to get combat and medical training.

4. Why would they bother? Our military is they're best recruiters.
They're already doing a fine job of loading up the ranks of the insurgents in Iraq and Al-queda is booming. Unlike reqruitment in our military.

5. I don't think that's what the article is talking about..
They are talking about how easy it is for people to get into OUR armed forces right now...
A student journalist recently did a piece that exposed how, posing as a drug addled drop out, recruiters showed him how to beat urine tests etc etc so they could get him 'signed up'.
Right now there are a lot of non-citizens in the armed forces, hoping for a "fast track" for naturalization.
The OP was just wondering how hard it would be for those with intentions against our troops to join up..
