Rice is still claiming Saddam had ties to al-Qaeda?

What is the latest on this? It's been my understanding that this claim has been discredited thoroughly.

I watched literally in disbelief when she said this. I could not believe that she could still sit there and actually say those words. I'm still stunned. I really am. I'm almost in a bit of shock because I just cannot believe that after everything that came out last week, Condi actually sat there and said this.

On a side note, if ever there was a classic example to use to study body language, Condi was it this morning. She was not "lying" in the literal sense because she has convinced herself that the lie is actually the truth,. But she had this extreme sense of urgency to convince Russert that the lie that she so firmly believes, is actually the truth. She was very obviously highly irritated and very angry that no one was believing her and the lie any longer.

that most of these people, especially Condi, never expected they would have to answer questions about this, or that at some point people would just give up and stop asking them.

I think if things had turned out differently, that actually could have happened.

It's the only reason I can think of that they seem to keep digging themselves deeper, they really have no other plan, which is typical for them.
