4. I especially love Mondays. Now that I'm retired.
There's nothing like waking up on a Monday morning and not saying "Oh, shit, 5 fucking days 'til Friday". Now, I just glance at the clock and decide whether I want to get up or go back to sleep.

"Work is good for you." Is a rumor spread by employers or people who don't have to work.

5. Here's some good news for you
My friend's granddaughter and niece were involved in a horrid automobile accident yesterday - 5 kids, 18 yrs. old headed off to college in a few weeks.

And, while 2 of the 5 kids are in critical condition (one of them my friend's niece; with massive head injuries) their conditions are improving and signs are good they will survive the accident.

We do have small things to be thankful for - let's rejoice in those on this day of bad news.

It's moments like these, when we worry for the future of our country, that we stop to remember why we fight so hard - for the next generation.

Stand tall and keep fighting.

6. Californians beat back the worst of the Diebold election theft machines!
Edited on Mon Aug-01-05 01:35 PM by Peace Patriot
The fight's not over! We have only just begun! But this was a major victory for the California and U.S. election reform movement.

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=203x386238

This news is a couple of days old, but it deserves repeating. California election reform activists organized a huge letter writing and public information campaign about the latest crap from Diebold, and packed the meeting in Sacto--not an easy thing to do (bi-i-ig state)--and provided numerous experts and public speakers. The new Diebold machines, when tested, had a 10% failure rate, and were denied certification. They can come back later with more lies--and more lemons. We'll have to keep fighting, and organizing, and raising consciousness.

These kinds of state/local fights for election transparency are the last stand for democracy in the U.S. Join us!

14. Local activism
What I saw on my way home from work today gave me some hope.

There was a car pulled right off of a highway that gets quite a bit of commuter traffic outside of Lawrence, Ks. Initially, I thought the car was stalled or something, but as I got closer, I saw a woman sitting in a car that was covered in prominent signs that said Rolox SUCKS, Rolox is NOT a good-faith company, Rolox will steal your money for bad work, etc. I'm not familiar with Rolox (I wonder if they're the company that's aired those commercials for windows and doors for years). Anyway, at least I saw SOMEONE take a stand about something in a manner that was noticable to the general public.

It made me think that we, as a community and as a nation, can do something similar in a grassroots sort of way. We already know that most people don't follow the news, or if they do, they don't fully realize the implications of what's happening to our nation. We could all do what that disgruntled woman did, in some form or another. I'm thinking that the photo of Bolton in Florida in the election steal, along with the caption "Meet your newly appointed UN Ambassador" might get some attention. People pay a hell of a lot more attention to hand-made signs from real people than they do to printed media.

We would need a lot of people on-board and I don't know if it would work or not, but in my view, it's time for a serious revolution in this nation. Anyway, that woman's ire, combined with some serious guts to stand up for herself, made my day a little better.

PS: It also doesn't hurt that Bush's baseball buddy, Rafael Palmeiro (who testified before Congress about the evils of steroid use in order to get Bush's legislation through), has now tested positive for steroid use. Let's see if the media recognizes the irony and points it out. That isn't necessarily positive news, except for the Bush connection, because a lot of kids look up to that guy.

Ok, that's all of the good news I can come up with today. Tomorrow's a new day and the house is still crumbling. We've gotta hang in. It's still OUR freakin' country and we need to fight to save it. :patriot:

18. Well enjoy them while they last
I will be replacing them in a few weeks. Looking for just the right back to school cartoon.

Hey do you know about our meetups? 3rd Wed of every month. Flea Market in Westport. We have folks from all over come - KC, Lawrence, Leavenworth, St. Joe.

Check the KS or MO board for details.

20. Any on the weekends?
It looks like you usually meet during the week. I work fairly long hours in Lawrence and I live in Baldwin (with a dog waiting at home), so weeknights aren't that great for me.

I'll keep checking the KS page for a weekend meet-up. I could definitely do that. Oh, and I'll try to post a bit more often, too!

So my boss will be able to get his furniture and stuff, at last (he's moving back to Canada from Nairobi, and his possessions have been waiting in a container on the dock since early July!).

29. I'm going to the Green Bay Packers training camp this weekend.
Yippee, and I know, the salaries of ball players has just gotten out of hand. I know, and again this year, I don't care. I want Brett Favre and the Packers to kick some arse in the Super Bowl. The NFL takes my mind off all the other stuff that's going on.
