Who did Clark vote for in 2000?
I think this is key. I hear some say he voted for Gore, others say Bush?

Which is it, has Wes Clark stated an answer to that question anywhere?

Thanks...

"MATTHEWS: Yes. Who told you that, Paul Wolfowitz or Doug Feith? Just guessing. Let me ask you, who you did you vote for in 2000 for president?

CLARK: I voted for Al Gore.

MATTHEWS: Let me ask you. Do you think the Supreme Court was right to intervene in the election of 2000?

CLARK: No, I don’t."

6. PHEW!
Ok, he's moved up a notch. Still scared of the thought of a former Pug military general with no congressional voting record but....

This is good to know.
Thanks!

24. Not so fast, gully
I saw that segment. He paused, looking terribly uncomfortable, and when he finally answered he looked even more uncomfortable.

Plus, that was his most recent answer. I want to know what his answer was before that because I've heard there WAS a different answer previously.

7. Well..
..if he voted for Gore he sure has a funny way of showing it, considering he was out praising Bush and Condi not many months later.

Something tells me General Clark has been voting for Republicans all along, just like the rest of the military brass.

14. What tells you that?
So, your intuition verifies your suspicion, which makes you trust your intuition all the more?

He's a Democrat. He's campgined for and donated to Democrats since retirement. He example of him saying nice things about Republicans is dwarfed by the critical things he has said, and the good things he's said about the Democrats.

There ARE non-partisan folks in the military. And Clark's transition to partisanship post-retirement, both through his views and his actions and his BODY of writing, makes him pretty obviously a Democrat.

Incidentally, would you call Gens. Shinseki and Zinni typical Republican brass? Both, especially the latter, are EXTREMELY critical of the Bush administration. Not as critical as Clark, but that's not easy.

18. Well..
"What tells you that?"

My suspicion is mostly caused by the fact that being from a military family, and having been associated with the military most of my entire life, I virtually know not a single ranking military officer who votes Democratic.

Clark may be an exception. I am willing to concede that, but it doesn't remove my suspicions about someone who didn't even declare he was a Democrat until a month ago. His glowing words about Bush, Rice and Reagan lead me to believe he was GOP military voter just like most of the rest of the brass. Republicans have almost always promised the military and the military industrial complex plenty of funding and favor, and is usually rewarded with the votes and support of those in that segment of society.

20. I get the sense he was a moderate who wasn't partisan
He could certainly vote for Gore without disliking Bush at the same time. I do think there are exceptions to the military being Republican, but I imagine the overwhelming majority are Republican, as you say. Of course, the Iraq war seems to be alienating more and more military families.

21. "not a single ranking military officer who votes Democratic"
It's obvious that if the Democrats don't do something about that, we have a problem.

22. I Can Think Of Some Dem Officers...
but they all seem to come from the Navy-Admiral Rickover, Admiral Turner, and Admiral Zumwalt....

Also, it's good to show the military the Republicans don't own it.....

It belongs to and should represent all of us....

23. Clark is the only Gore voter that ever say George W. was great
in March 2001, particularly in light of the Selection 2001, how could a man that voted for Gore could say what Clark said about Bush. This does not compute!

12. Did you hear Gore.
Hell, I didn't even vote for Gore.

(Disclaimer: I voted in Texas and thought a vote-swap with an Oregonian socialist was a better use of my vote. I swallowed my ralph and voted for Ralph)

16. ...Then 28 Months Ago Raised Money for the GOP?
That's the one that really bothers me. In May, 2001, he helped the Pulaski County Arkansas GOP raise money. That's bad.

About 11 1/2 months ago, he campaigned for Max Cleland. That's good.

But even this past year, he wouldn't answer questions from journalists who asked him whether he's a Democrat. That's bad.

Call me old fashioned, but I want to vote for a Democrat for the Democratic Party presidential nomination.

17. Clark is very candid and somewhat naive
The fact that Clark was willing to reveal his
entire Presidential voting record is a testament to his
candor and his political naivete.

Now let's talk about his ideas and those of the other
candidates.
