Bob Woodward or Carl Bernstein...
....or neither?

Personally I like Bernstein, he still seems like he's got at least a little fire in his belly from the old days. I honestly don't know enough about his career these days to give a properly informed opinion, though I understand he's an editor or something at Vanity Fair? Correct me if need be. I can only say that from what I've seen of him, he still seems willing to stick his neck out, at least a little.

Woodward? I think he likes his Armani suits too much. Whatever inspired him to become an investigative journalist as a young man seems to have dissipated over time. I think if a "Deep Throat" wanted to meet him in an underground parking garage today, he'd probably take a pass. And if Scotty McClellan dropped dead tomorrow, I wouldn't be surprised to see Bob first in line with a resume.

Just my two cents.

3. Read "Heartburn"
by Norah Ephron, Bernstein's ex-wife. Anyone who screws around while his wife is pregnant is a toad in my book.

5. Ya, I did hear something about that....
....definitely not cool. That makes him a bad husband and a cad. Bill Clinton, whom I admire greatly for any number of reasons, was also a bad husband and a cad. But I hear ya.

4. I don't know. Both guys are a little too prominent and too old
to do another clone of Watergate now. I'm sure there are lots of very eager reporters out there today who would die for a chance like that, and they're young enough and obscure enough to get away with it.

The problem is, there're very few Deep Throats ever come along!

9. Politically, I'd chose
Bernstein. He seems to have drunk less Kool-Aid during his time in Washington. But Woodward? A real whore. He doesn't report. He doesn't investigate. He just spends his time thinking about his next book. He reminds me of Drudge. Not much there. But people can't resist taking a moment to check him out, anyway.
Woodward has been coasting on work he did 30 years ago.
He's a hack. Practically on Gannon's level.
I'm ashamed he's from my home state.

10. Woodward
Somebody on DU that I respect a lot told me that Woodward was part of a group that wanted Nixon out... not just because he was a criminal, but also because they thought Nixon was too liberal! So, that tells you where Woodward stands politically.

15. woodward was kgb
or whatever the hell they call the dirty sneakers now...he wasn't even a reporter when he got the washpost job ....and there were lotsa journos who'd kill him for that position! if you could question woodward using a blowtorch assist, he'd tell you all the pathetic secrets of who murdered jfk, the wtergate scam, the iran contra deal, the coups in '63,'74, '79-80 and of course 2k....half the crap the lying punk would tell you, you couldn't believe, because oftentimes the motive was plain old racism (the crack epidemic under reagan) or population control/pharmaceutical windfall profits (the intro of Aids, also under reagan but w/out reagan's knowlege)
one good thing about the geebush experience is that the shabby banality of why the omnipotenti do stuff is now apparent: there was no big idea or long term goal, it was just punks stioned on power fukking around in parking lot breaking windows and scratching the finishes on the nice cars

16. Bob Woodward
Just watch this video of him yesterday on Chris Matthews, and it pretty much sums up what he has become. Just disgusting.
