Another way getting out of the sunshine in the "Sunshine" state??

Secretive permanent committees help politicians cloak some donors.
Lawmakers skirt rules for cash

SNIP...."Senate President Jim King needed to talk to some of his fellow senators last December. So he chose a place where he thought they wouldn't be seen -- a restaurant atop the south end zone of Doak Campbell Stadium at Florida State University.

The $423 tab was paid by the Floridians for a More Informed Electorate, a "committee of continuous existence," that has funneled campaign contributions to senators loyal to King and has helped pay with meals and travel....."

SNIP...."What started as a trickle of money into these accounts four years ago has turned into a torrent as nearly every lawmaker in a leadership post, or vying for one, has turned to friends and political allies to set up these accounts.

One legislator bluntly said she had no intention of revealing the names of people who are giving to her account or "committee of continuous existence."

Excellent investigative journalism here. Thanks, Ledger.

1. no offense to Floridians
I remember DU Floridians working like heck to prevent Jeb! from being reelected - but it sounds like things are going from corrupt to worse down there. (After the Edison story - the Library story - and this - geez.)

This is a good thing to know - I would bet this does not happen just in Florida.

2. Same committees, different names, different states, most likely.
Yep, you are right. Once they took us over, it is all done in secret. Florida papers are trying, a lot of them. It is just not enough.

Once they take over a state so thoroughly, they feel invulnerable. They just do whatever they want, and they hope we don't find out.

3. hope they won't be found out...
judging from the arrogance we're observing, they didn't even consider being found out...

I'll say it again...when you groom people in the theology and ideology of controlling the world and you get them into all important positions, you have less to worry about - for the breadth and extent of efforts, they groom judges, lawyers, journalists, editors, expert guests, think tankers, civic job employees, election board supervisors, critical agencies, manufacturers of things and you combine that with fundamentalists who do a number on their sheep...you start not having to worry. This has been a work in progress for forty plus years. This is a classic grassroots effort. There has been great progress - you are feeling the effects in many ways.

4. your gonna hate me for this
I cut a check to the 'floridians for a more informed electorate' group(King) myself 2 years ago, in fact I raised over $2500 dollars for it(him). King is a backer of our professional organization here. Its how politics is done in Florida. it sucks but it is the nature of the beast. Special interest groups and money.
