Anyone else frustrated that only threads of fighting clark and dean fans
are read, responded to, each spurring three little new baby rabbit threads, to the point where other issues/discussions are getting squeezed out. Not on their merits, but because frickin 12 related threads start in 2 minutes and knock on going discussions off page one in about 8 minutes.

Geez - can't you guys just keep fighting on a handful of threads? Do you have to start two to three retaliatory threads for each thread started on the other side that you don't like?

How are any of you going to beat bush if you don't let people discuss current issues that are directly related to bush, his policies, his (and his administrations) malign latest actions? Just on the sheer magnatism of your candidate? I like them both - but neither are magnetic enough to offset a likely 4:1 money advantage of team bush.

Have to keep chipping away at BUsh's credibility with the voters with each outrageous item that comes along. Please allow some of these type of discussions to coexist along your squabbling threads - we are trying to do our part to help with the eventual defeat of bush.

Or is that the point... that we no longer believe these discussions have merit... that it makes more sense to chase these discussions away.. to another forum? Or from DU altogether? THat would be a shame.

I was having problems with getting on DU and I thought it was from all of the SHIT being poured into the forums about Clark and Dean.....

Enough already, it's worse then an unruly kindergarten class without any supervision...

4. Yep
I tried to offer an alternative, with a plug for a great website. and just asked for an occasional kick to keep it alive. But it continues to disapppear.

Okay so I'm whining. But it seems like the opportuinity to bring actual ideas into the mix is overshadowed by sniping over which Democratic candidate is the most demonic.

11. Problem is - these threads are crowded out by the SPEED at which
those folks are posting new retaliatory (and repetitive) threads.

I bet 75% of the clark/dean threads started in the last hour have exactly zero new information in the originating post. But so many go up with rapid firing - that anything else gets drowned out.

Thanks for the link to that site, Armstead!

9. Pretty much.
I think instead of bashing candidates, we should be motivating them to educate the public and discuss the very reasons why Bush needs to be voted out of the White House.

Energy policy
the environment
civil liberties
the folly against preemptive strikes against sovereign nations
civil rights
the ECONOMY, stupid!
unemployment and the rise in poverty
education
national security - how we're not safer than we were 3 years ago
foreign policy
the judiciary and judicial appointments

Bush has been a disaster in every one of those areas plus tons of others. We need our candidates to point these things out... not point fingers at each other.

21. Well hullo there!
:hi: Nice to be back. It's just disappointing to see all us doing Karl Rove's work. The candidates simply need to discuss the issues and let the chips fall where they may. In all this bickering back and forth, we're losing sight of what's important: preventing ourselves and this planet from further ruin by * & co. and developing a plan to dig ourselves out of the hole Republican rule has dumped us into.

Just a bunch of noise too. I don't get my opinion of Dean or Clark from DU GD. Too much noise, too many knee-jerk, spastic opinions, too many opportunities for semi-clever disruptors to cause problems.

18. General Discussion right now is an absolute DISGRACE
The Dean-Clark war is a symptom of a childishness that will lose the election tout court. Mark that.

Some people need to grow up, and damn quick, because there are so many long-time DUers acting like small children in the Dean-Clark-Kerry wars that a visitor would think she'd stumbled upon a kindergarten class in disarray.

Absolutely sickening behavior all around, and YES, I am being a fucking moralist!

Stop it. Fucking STOP IT! I'm sick to my stomach, with this place that I love.

And let's not even mention the sudden influx of new posters casting out flamebait that is eagerly taken up by veterans who should know fucking better. I'm not saying all new posters are disruptors, but let's use our heads a bit, know wot-I-mean?

STOP IT.

... just as an experiment. Whenever I see a blatant yet questionable yet "within the rules of engagement" flame bait thread, I'm adding that thread's author to my temporary ignore list.

I wonder what effect that will have on the quality and content of my perception of GD.

Kinda like an alternate reality, eh?

31. It is sad
I posted a thread on Ivins book which got maybe 9 replies and some of those were my replies to replies. I posted a couple of other threads which suffered a similar fate. GD in particular is now just a swamp which is sad as Ivins book is outrageous in the truest sense of the word and no one seems to even care. I don't even know what you posted about as it is gone.

33. I wish they'd stick to two or three threads as well.
Edited on Sun Sep-28-03 04:42 PM by tjdee
I get involved in those threads, but it gets on my nerves when there are 'reply to X thread' or 'parody of Y post' or 'My reply to that reply'... If you've got important info, or a new link, or something, maybe. There are a lot of posts where things can get lost--for example, I thought Pepperbelly's post on the Lincoln dinner deserved its own thread. But it has gone overboard (today's not the only day, and Clark isn't the only topic where this has happened).

There's nothing really to be done about it.Some people (*some*) people have Name In Lights Syndrome. Also, there are also people who post three, four thread starters a day. I wish the mods would limit posting new threads to two a day per user. Maybe even one. That's just me.

35. THIS is exactly the part of it that is driving me NUTS today.
In the past it was considered spamming the forum. Would often result in locks. Today it is a free for all that has shut down other conversations.

Or at least one thread to a topic. Multiple related threads - is a bit much.

41. I'm with you on limiting the number of threads a poster can start in

a certain time period. Yesterday (?) I noticed that the "Latest" threads included 5 or 6 started by the same poster (a name totally unknown to me) and I believe all were in GD or Lounge. Imagine if everyone operated that way. . .

ENTIRELY too many parody threads, too. ONE send-up of Pitt's "I'm getting nervous about Dean" thread might have been amusing. I don't even want to know how many people ripped off the original parodier's idea, though.

Limit the number of threads a person can start and implement the rules that were tried before to improve thread quality.

Ban "canned" responses such as "Yawn," "This thread ain't nothing but shit," and so forth.

43. Yesterday I saw...
a name show up as the newest DU member and within two hours or so that person had racked up 50+ posts and was posting thread after thread! I thought there used to be a rule that you couldn't start a thread until you had reached a certain number of posts?? I have seen sooo much of that recently, folks coming in and racking up HUGE numbers of post in a very short time, thus giving then the appearance of having been here for awhile.

Salin, it is clear to anyone who really HAS has been here for longer than a year that the site has been infested by campaign operatives (on all sides) and disruptors. I've also seen a lot of long time DUers trying to refute/challenge much of the crapola that is coming through. That has been something I have not known what to do with -- ignore the crap or step up and challenge it. There's part of me that says NOT to challenge it is to let the above mentioned groups have run of the boards. I am quickly leaning the names to avoid. :)

I have participated minorly in a few of the Clark threads -- I am no Dean supporter, just someone who is worried about what I DON'T know about Clark and what I see as an attempt to shut down valid questions/criticism by some about him. Am I adding to the problem? I don't know, maybe. But I do want the right to ask questions -- respectfully, of course.

I do think that many of the candidate threads SHOULD be in Campaigns & Politics, but it doesn't look like that is going to happen any time soon.

I guess in the meantime, all we can do is ask ourselves "Is opening this thread going to make my head explode?" before clicking on a thread, and supporting the threads with genuine content.

Hang in there, Salin!

I think I counted 9 threads just now with *Clark* in the headers. Are these posters so in love with themselves that they can't post whatever they have to say on one thread?

Same with the endless parodies. Humor is good. One upsmanship strikes me as juvenile.

Like others, I've stopped recommending the site for the time being.
