What is worse? And not you and I either. But what about to the majority of the voters next election when there are American soldiers still dying in Iraq and elsewhere?

3. Now if "Slimy Shrub" the deserter
would just admit it, we would all be fine. I like Dean and Clark both and come to think of it all the other Democratic candidates and I guess that really makes me weird.

5. Its a low blow
But that is the kind of stuff we had better be ready for next year. Because thats the kind of stuff that is going to be thrown around. That is a shame, but it is the truth. We all know what kind of campaign the Bush people will be running next year. So lets don't kid ourselves. Eyes wide open.

7. The Chickenhawk reference will be played up because...
...he applied for and recieved a medical deferment from the draft during Vietnam. I have heard both the wing nut reason which will be the one given non-stop by our liberal media, and I have heard Deans reason. Deans reason sounds perfectly reasonable to me and I take him on his word. But when he is in a debate with Bush and the Chimps mentions his service for his country no one will want to hear Deans reason for his deferment. They will only be thinking about their hero flyboy GWB landing on the aircract carrier. That is the problem that I see.

8. He did not apply for medical deferment
He went for his draft physical and did not pass it. Simple! And I would bet you a dollar to a doughnut "Slimy Shrub" will not mention his military service to his country. He would get laughed outa the room.

14. Shirley, you jest!
You really present us with some demented logic. "He applied for and received." Could you provide a link for where you discovered that Governor Dean applied for a medical deferement? And, do you really and truly think Chimpie is going to use the carrier landing footage? As for service to country, a private practice doctor is worth more to the country than an Air National Guard pilot trained to fly an obsolete jet interceptor used to protect the skies of West Texas. Damn, you are really reaching here.

9. your info is off
he didn't apply for a deferment he went for the draft physical and got a deferement.

But if your question is would I like to vote for a life-long Democrat who thankfully didn't have to fight and kill innocent people in Vietnam who instead became a doctor who actually saved lives then the answer is yes.

15. I was using this article for reference. It may be incorrect?
http://www.boston.com/news/politics/president/dean/articles/2003/09/21/a_back_condition_wins_dean_a_vietnam_era_draft_deferment/

A back condition wins Dean a Vietnam-era draft deferment

In February of 1970, with the Vietnam War raging, 21-year-old Howard Dean carried a set of X-rays and a letter from a Manhattan orthopedist named Hudson Wilson to Fort Hamilton in Brooklyn, where US military doctors determined that he was not fit for military service because of a back condition called spondylolisthesis.

Dean was classified 1Y, according to military records, meaning he was exempt from service for the duration of the war and free to head to Colorado after his Yale graduation, where he skied at Aspen and poured concrete. Spondylolisthesis is a condition caused by an unfused vertebra. When diagnosed nearly four years earlier, he was cleared to participate in all sports except long-distance running.

"I didn't try to get out of the draft," Dean has said. "I had a physical." snip

The basis for his classification is difficult to document. The Selective Service System, following standard procedure, destroyed all records in Dean's file save his classification listings. Dean said he did not keep copies of the X-rays or Wilson's letter. Nor did he keep a copy, he said, of the letter he believes he wrote requesting a deferral from military service. His physician, Wilson, is dead. snip

At Yale, Dean did not support the war but was not vocal. He took part in one protest, by his count. He said he was not overly worried about being drafted and said the reason he wrote a letter seeking a military medical exam was to clarify his standing.

11. Dean is pretty hawkish, actually.
The Iraq war is the only military action of the U.S. he has been against.

12. Which ones have you opposed?
And why?

Dean's made it clear that he believes in defending U.S. interests and U.S. allies. Iraq met neither of these criteria.

I know what Dean's criteria are. How do your criteria differ?
